Furnished with a mix of rustic and modern pieces, Casas Amarelas has become an example of how to restore period buildings in Sintra, a marriage of comfort and tradition. Staying here will not only enhance your experience of Sintra by 'living' its heritage, but you will also be contributing to the preservation of this beautiful period town.
The 4 houses have been furnished with style and comfort in mind - heating and air-conditioning, wooden floors, large bathrooms, Plasma TVs with cable and DVD, dishwasher and washing machine - combined with the unique Sintra style of antiques, traditional colours and texture.
The houses can be rented together or separately.
The Big House - Surface area : 120 m2 - 6/8 persons
The house is all on one level and reached via its beautifully tended garden. The living room is spacious opens onto a private area of the garden for 'al fresco' meals and restful moments. Wooden garden furniture and a mobile bar-b-cue are on hand. The new kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher and washing machine.
Both bedrooms are very spacious with good storage. The third bedroom is an open mezzanine reached from the living room, a den much loved by children.
Aguas Furtadas - Surface area : 80 m2 - 4/6 persons
The apartment is all in one level and occupies the whole of the second floor of a separate house; it is reached via a pretty period external staircase. The living room is spacious and bright with distant sea views. The new large kitchen is fully equipped and has an eat-in area, dishwasher and washing machine. Wooden garden furniture and mobile bar-b-cue to use either in the private balcony or the shared patio and garden are available.Both bedrooms are spacious with good storage space. If the kitchen is used as living room, the living room becomes effectively a very large third bedroom.
The Apartment Red - Surface area : 45 m2 - 2/4 persons
The apartment is all in one level on the first floor; it is reached via a pretty period external staircase. The living room is spacious and bright and opens up to a large terrace shared with the small apartment. The new kitchen is fully equipped, and has a dishwasher and washing machine. Wooden garden furniture and mobile bar-b-cue to use either in the terrace or the shared patio and garden are available. The bedroom is comfortable with a walk-in closet and separate office corner and desk.
The Small Apartment - Surface area: 35m2 - 2/4 persons
The apartment is all in one level on the first floor; it is reached via a pretty period external staircase. The living room opens up to a large terrace shared with Aguas Furtadas apartment. The kitchenette is fully equipped, and has a dishwasher and washing machine. Wooden garden furniture and mobile bar-b-cue to use either in the terrace or the shared patio and garden are available.
The bedroom is comfortable and has a double bed.
Location
The location is ideal for exploring not just Sintra but central Portugal, given the easy access to the motorway system. Lisbon is only half an hour by train or car, and Cascais and Estoril 20 minutes away. Further afield - in easy day trips from Sintra - you can visit the walled city of Obidos, the Knights Templar castle of Tomar and Batalha Abbey, the monastery palace of Mafra, the seaside towns of Sesimbra and Ericeira, Palmela castle and Arrabida national park.
Weather
Portugal is a year round destination. Hot and sunny in the summer, with a refreshing breeze off the sea; windier months are July and August; Spring and Autumn are mild, ideal for sightseeing. Rainy days can occur in winter, but it is rarely cold.

Location
Sintra is unique and deserves its status as a world heritage site. The house stands in an area of Sintra designated as historical heritage, where no new construction is allowed.
Beaches
Sintra's beaches are 15 minutes away by car; golden sand, sheltered coves and magnificent cliffs are all within easy reach. Praia da Macas (Apple Beach) can also be reached by a restored 100 year old tram. Cascais is 20 minutes by car, with its many beaches, restaurants and night life. The surfers' paradise of Guincho is 20 minutes away.
Golf
Six of Portugal’s best golf courses are within a 15 minute drive, offering new and surprising landscapes, along with first class services and facilities.
Gastronomy and wine tasting
Sintra is famed for its 'queijadas'(cakes) and local wines from Colares. Restaurants are both good and inexpensive. Wineries can be visited in person or as part of an organised tour.

Fast road access means both Lisbon and Cascais are 20 minutes away.
You can opt for a car free holiday: there are local buses on the doorstep and the train that takes you to Lisbon is 10 walk away. From Sintra there is a good network of buses to Cascais, Estoril and elsewhere.
Many excursions can be arranged locally
