Vacation Rental Description
Spacious private villa (quinta): Set in beautiful landscaped gardens with many unusual plants, including some superb palms. We have children and have ensured that the property is family orientated with many indoor and outdoor games, with space for playing ball games. The living and terraced areas are large enough to allow 2 families to have their own 'space'. The property has many toys, DVDs , children story CD's and books aimed at a wide range of ages. We have created the gardens with children in mind so there is plenty of space to kick a ball, play hide and seek, badminton etc. Our thoughts are, if the children have a great holiday, then so do the parents!
The property has a private pool 1.1m deep that has a surrounding deck and is securely fenced. There is a BBQ near the pool within the covered seating area. Terraces are featured on the north, east and south sides, with shaded areas and outdoor furniture including hammock & sunloungers. Beautiful gardens surround the terraces and which have been recently restored by a professional garden designer. Two new seating areas have been created within the garden, both under palms, one with a bench and the other with a relaxing free standing hammock.
A large lawned area for ball games has also been created. 5 hectares (12 acres) of woodland and fields surround the property and we have cut out paths through some of this area to create a shady play area for older children.
Bedroom 1 is large with a kingsize bed and fitted wardrobes.
Bedroom 2 is spacious with a single bed, bunkbeds and fitted wardrobes.
Bedroom 3 has twin beds and its own French windows leading to terrace and gardens.
All bedrooms have wooden floors.
We have recently installed a new bathroom with a fullsize bath and a separate shower.
The sitting room and dining area is extremely spacious (7m x 9m) with wooden floors and a woodburner. Wide French windows open out onto a terrace and gardens. Satellite TV with British channels, DVD, CD/cassette recorder, English books, toys and games.
The property is close to beaches and set in rugged landscape. The valley in which it is situated is still traditionally Portuguese, with many walks along nearby dirt tracks. The villa is close to many attractions including; local bars / restaurants and amenities, although for exploring the neighbouring towns of Lagos, Luz and Silves a car would be beneficial. An extensive information pack will be available at Quinta dos Almarjoes reflecting our 40 year knowledge of the area, allowing you to experience more to your holiday than most tourists.
There are around 30 wonderful baeaches in close proximity to Quinta dos Almarjoes, ranging from family friendly ones, to beaches with a range of water sport activities to quiet remote beaches with virtually no-one on them.
A 3 min drive or an easy 30 mins walk to the lovely Burgau beach with beach bar & restaurant. This picturesque bay is flanked by spectacular cliffs.
Boca do Rio is a 5 mins drive and has a river running into the beach (ideal for younger children), an underwater Roman villa and 300m to sea a shipwreck!
The rugged and wild beaches of the West Coast are a surfer’s paradise and are located in the protected Nature Reserve. The start of the West Coast beaches is a 15 minute drive.
The Algarve is renowned for its top golf courses and there are 4 courses within close proximity: Palmares, Boa Vista and Parque da Floresta are all just 10 mins drive, with Penina 20 mins away.
Facilities
Kitchen: A very well appointed kitchen with oven, dishwasher, microwave, and fridge/freezer. It has been fully furnished with enough plates, glasses and cutlery to entertain 12 people. Coolbags and picnic equipment are also available. A separate laundry area with a washing machine and a small terrace for drying clothes is situated in a small courtyard outside the kitchen door. The sitting room and dining area is extremely spacious (7m x 9m) with wooden floors and a woodburner. Wide French windows open out onto a terrace and gardens. Satellite TV with British channels, DVD, CD/cassette recorder, English books, toys and games. Prices include gas, electricity & linen (not beach towels). Winter rates include logs for the wood burner. A Property Manager is available during your stay. The house will be cleaned at the end of each week, with new towels changed midweek.
Activities
Some of the activities available locally include horse riding, water sports/activities, tennis, archery, jeep safaris, gyms, boat trips and spectacular walks both inland and along coastal paths. Water Parks and the Zoomarine are approximately 40 minutes drive away. Lagos Zoo is 15 minutes away.
Burgau has restaurants, bars, provisions and gift shops to browse. There is also a multibank machine, newsagents, butchers, fishmonger and a mobile post office.
The Burgau Sports Centre has a swimming pool which is heated during winter months and also offers children's activities.
Lagos is a large town with supermarkets, banks, chemists, hospital etc.
Our extensive knowledge can assist in researching specific interests. My parents have written numerous books and articles on birdwatching, wildlife and the cultural traditions of Portugal and Spain.

We appreciate that cheaper air fares are available midweek so we try to be as flexible as possible. Check-in time is after 3pm. Check-out time is by 10.30am. Check availability by telephoning or emailing. We require a 40% deposit (within 7 days of booking), which we acknowledge and your dates will be reserved. The balance of the rental (60%) will be due 4 weeks prior to your departure date. We will send you detailed directions and additional information. Cancellations: Where possible we will try to re-let the property. If successful a full refund will be given.
