DEFINITELY A PLACE TO GO BACK TO!!!
A very spacious and well-maintained property with a nice view over the town. Roof terrace excellent for sunbathing on days when you can't be bothered wandering down to the beach. Shops nearby for basics, plenty of good restaurants in and around town, but cooking facilities in the property are good and it is worth investigating the local market and cooking at home on occasions, particularly with so much fresh fish available. Will definitely stay here again.

GREAT TERRACE
I’m writing this after my 2nd visit. Tavira’s great, a lovely town with loads of character, and not over-touristy. The house has an private sun-terrace, which is surprising given its central location, and loads of space. It couldn’t be more conveniently situated for the shops and restaurants, but also for the ferry (good fun!) to the fantastic beaches. Will definitely be back again.

LOVELY HOUSE
Our first trip to Tavira was made a great holiday by staying in this lovely house right in the old town. We are a family of four, with two kids aged 11 and 7, and I would happily recommend this house and Tavira to families who want to experience the 'real' Portugal.
Although we had a car, you don't really need one for the house or the town. There is a small local shop just 2 minutes away, which has all the essentials you could need, and there is a larger supermarket just 5-10 minutes walk, located next to the town railway station. I'd also recommend the daily town market, which has every variety of fish you could wish for, along a great range of other foods - you'll probably need to drive to the market, as it's around a 20-30 minute walk from the house. Note that you can't leave your car outside the house, although there is a free car park just 2 minutes walk towards the river.
The house is on two levels, with a further roof top terrace and a small garden, and has everything you could wish for, including deck chairs, outside tables and a barbecue. Inside there is a TV with a dvd player, along with a good selection of disks, books and local guides.
Tavira is a great place to escape to and the beach is amazing; if you can organise the transport, a great day out is to catch the ferry to the eastern end of Tavira island, then walk for five miles along the beach to catch the little train home - don't worry if you miss the train, as there is a path along the side of the railway line.
Memories of our trip include walks through the town, the beach, seashells, the huge numbers of fish in the river, watching bats fly away from the old town walls, and eating fresh tuna steaks along with local wine on our roof top terrace at sunset. We'll be back!

GEM LOCATION
Tavira is a charming old town, more upmarket than some of the other towns in the area we have stayed in.
The house is ideally situated in the old town, just a couple of minutes from the castle and a little further to the restaurants on the riverside. A 10 minute walk in the opposite direction brings you to the rail station and a Lidl supermarket.
The house was perfect for our stay, bedrooms on the ground floor led into a walled courtyard garden with hibiscus and bourgainvilleas, just perfect for a G&T in the evening.
Next floor had a lounge and though we thought we would miss satelite TV it was a pleasant change to have a break from the news. The outside top terrace was ideal for sunbathing though it does get very hot.
Emma, the agent was extremely helpful, always available to give advice or organise taxis for the airport.
If you like towns that are not full of tourists this would be an ideal choice.

A PERFECT HOLIDAY!!!
My perfect holiday is one where I can relax in a beautiful, spacious and peaceful house yet am in the heart of somewhere quirky and interesting to potter around during the day. I also want some great little restaurants and bars for the evening, throw in some live music and I'm in heaven- so Tavira was perfect for me! When I've only got a week's holiday I like to leave the driving and the rushing around behind and truly relax.
The house was just what we needed, deliciously cool inside with it's gorgeous heavy wooden shutters, but I loved the pretty little sunny balconies - different ones for different parts of the day's sunshine! A great way to start the day was breakfast bought fresh from the market, sitting up on the rooftop overlooking the town. The fresh orange juice made from these Portuguese oranges has the best flavour I've had anywhere!
Tavira has the best of both worlds, it's a pretty historic town lost in time, yet has a great cafe culture and some fabulous restaurants and bars for the evening. If you don't fancy doing anything but depositing yourself here in Tavira for a week you wouldn't be bored, particularly if you like pottering around exploring little backstreets, sampling the cafe culture and supping a little vinho verde in the sunshine (this quickly became my daily ritual...) If you do have itchy feet to explore then hiring a car means there are so many places to visit - both beautiful beaches and bustling towns.
I would thoroughly recomment a visit.
