Vacation Rental Description
Villa Miela offers sumptuous views, character charm and all mod-cons on a holiday in an area of outstanding natural beauty - Lake Skadar National Park. Five minutes from Virpazar, the lake's charming main settlement, yet just 30 minutes drive from Montenegro's coast and capital city, it's perfect for families or groups of friends. Visit our website, http://www.undiscoveredmontenegro.com to book.
Practically unknown in the West, the dramatic beauty of this vast freshwater lake easily rivals the more famous European lakes, offering pristine beaches, freshwater swimming, kayaking, hiking, fabulous nature and bird-watching and all-round incredible scenery! To match it, we spent two years renovating this centuries-old farmhouse and adapting it for modern life, completing the project in 2010. Be charmed by original character features like metre thick stone walls to keep you cool in the Mediterranean summer, or the stone archway downstairs, once used for fermenting wine and hanging smoked hams.
With four tastefully decorated bedrooms (each en-suite), Villa Miela can sleep up to 10 if a couple of kids are happy to sleep on z-beds. Exposed stone details and wooden ceilings and floors add to the charm, but you'll be more focused on the stunning views available outside, offered up by each bedroom and the open-plan living area.
Two bedrooms have balcony access, while the others have private terraces. The modern kitchen comes equipped with washing machine and dishwasher.
Meanwhile, the villa's 40 square metre terrace offers panoramic views over lake, mountain and valley and is perfect for dining, sunbathing, reading a book or even spotting eagles hunting on the rocky outcrop above.
Outside, beyond the terrace, there are extensive grounds and a wood below, ideal for kids and adults alike to explore. Discover Villa Miela's natural freshwater spring, wild tortoises in the garden and walk around our natural orchard where you can pick figs, plums, cherries, pomegranates and walnuts rights off the trees.

BY PLANE
Montenegro Airlines fly direct to Montenegro all year round from a selection of European destinations, with return fares starting from as little as 125 Euros. Lake Skadar's main settlement, Virpazar, is reachable by car in 20 minutes from Podgorica International Airport and in 1 hour 15 minutes from Tivat.
British Airways, Air France, Lufthansa, Croatia Airlines and EasyJet all fly direct to Dubrovnik all year round from 125 Euros return. Lake Skadar is then 2.5 hours away by car.
Please check with each airline's website for the most up-to-date flight information.
BY TRAIN
If you want to keep your carbon footprint to a minimum, you could always take the train to Belgrade and then enjoy one of Europe's most dramatic journeys over the mountains to Virpazar. That final stretch takes 9 hours; how you get to Belgrade is of course up to you. Seat61 is a good place to plan your journey.
BY CAR
If you're driving from Western Europe, we recommend that you head through Croatia to the bustling Dalmatian town of Split. From there, you simply drive down the Adriatic coast to Dubrovnik, continue to the Montenegrin border to the magnificent Kotor fjord, whiz past the coastal resorts of Budva and Sveti Stefan and when you reach Petrovac, take the mountain road left towards Lake Skadar. You'll have some incredible views and the whole journey once you leave Split should not take more than 7-8 hours. Have a look at Michelin Maps for more precise directions if you don't already have SatNav.
Car rental is easily arranged. If you're flying into Dubrovnik, we recommend www.carrentals.co.uk as the best place to book your car for the onward journey to Lake Skadar. Just remember to ask for the green insurance card, without which you cannot cross the border!
BY FERRY
Montenegro Lines sail from Bari and Ancona in Italy to the port of Bar five times a week. Bar is just 30 minutes from Lake Skadar by car.
