Vacation Rental Description
This is my home from home. Unfortunately, I do not have time to use it because of work and other commitments :( I planned it in a way that when I (my family) want to go for the weekend, we don't need to take anything with us. There is everything including some very special antique china and pine furniture inherited from Irish grandparents. I am looking for someone who appreciates beautiful things, who will look after them until my circumstances change. The flat is on the first floor of a block of six builtless than ten years ago. Across the street which is a very quiet one, there are old Gozitan houses and beautiful reconverted farmhouses. Parking is very easy.
As one opens the front door, one is faced with a big arched window overlooking evergreen fields and typical Gozitan countryside with nestling sparrows. The hall furniture,a table (where the telephone is) and a chair are all antique pine. On the walls there are willow pattern plates which blend in beautifully and other very old or antique pictures, granny's glass etc..The hall and dining room lights have dimmers.
The main bedroom has a very pretty small ensuite with shower, basin and toilet. There is a window which overlooks the street. All rooms have insect screens and ceiling fans. The furniture in this room has been made by a Gozitan carpenter. It is a lovely room with a very good orthopedic mattress and duvet cover and valance to match the curtains and the soft furnishings in the bathroom. The room next to it is the first spare bedroom with two single beds, wardrobe etc and with a large balcony overlooking the main road and the old reconverted farmhouses. All beds have duvets and duvet covers to match the curtains. The third double bedroom is the next room, with two twin beds and everything else one would need in a bedroom, together with a fitted cupboard which doubles up as a storage cupboard. One could easily put a temporary folding bed in both the spare bedrooms when one has a lot of guests.
The dining room has a rectangular antique pine table with four chairs, but six can sit around it (there are enough Royal Doulton oven to table plates for twelve), as well as a very beautiful dresser, side round table with a tablecloth right to the floor, whatnot/trolley and chest of drawers which match perfectly since they are all very old.
Combined with the dining room is the lounge with sofas and armchairs from Form (Malta and Gozo's) leading lounge furniture outlet with a tv (cable digital already installed) on a portable chest....In this room there are also a painting of the valley one sees from the terrace painted by a reputable artist of the islands. The upholstery was chosen to match the colours of the valley: green, burnt orange - one has to see it to understand. By the way, all the walls are natural Gozitan stone (not painted.
From the dining room/lounge there is a large sliding door onto a balcony overlooking the valley. It is a dream at night.. but then, I think it is a dream at any time of the day. The sunsets (especially in November) are amazing. There are tables and chairs (and a sun umbrella) for dinners outside. The kitchen is just off the combined dining room/lounge with a window also overlooking the valley. It is fully equipped with microwave, electic oven etc. It is in pine and once again made by a specialised Gozitan carpenter. On the wall there are antique pineshelves, china and copper.
The main bathroom is just off the dining room. There is a washing maching and we usually hang out the laundry on a clothes houre on the balcony to dry, but it is possible to install a tumble dryer. In the dining room there is a very effective paraffin heater. It is norm in Gozo to use such heaters and one just drives to the local petrol station to buy paraffin. Janine lives close by.She would very happily do your cleaning.

The apt overlooks a valley where there is a 'pond' which is actually an old manmade resevoir for an orange grove cultivated by an old Gozitan farmer. One can go down there and buy oranges, potatoes etc. Oranges hereare VERY special. There is actually a French recipe from when Napoleon was in Malta called Sauce Maltaise made with Maltese blood oranges.
There is a road going down this valley. It is now a proper road, but used to be just a path which villagers and farmers used. This road leads down to one of the best local restaurants 'Ta'Fenc' and to a popular seaside village, Marsalforn.Within easy walking distance there are also several very good restaurants: Oleander, Aztec, Gestherand the restaurant of the Hotel Cornucopia (which also has a swimming pool) - the hotel not the restaurant :).
There are also two execellent supermarkets, homes where u can buy local cheeselets and a petrol station which sells all the Sunday papers.

I am an avid traveller and yet I believe that Gozo is Gozo. It cannot be compared to any other country in the world. When I am blessed enough to visit I feel like I am going back in time. Here are quiet steets, donkeys, green fields and hills. One can go down to one of the fishing villages and watch the fishermen as they bring in their catch. Each village is so different and has so much to offer. In Gozo, in Xaghra actually!!, where the apartmenet is, there are the oldest prehistoric temples in the world, older than the Pyramids in Egypt or than Stonehenge.
Gozo is very small, but one can actually get lost there. The legends are intriguing. During the summer months there are festas in every village with fireworks. The most beautiful sandy beach in the Maltese archipaelgo is in Gozo, Ramla l-Hamra overlooked by Calypso's which is situated in Xaghra. This cave is alleged to be the cave referred to by Homer in "The Odyssey".
Owner Location Comment
Xaghra is a charming and quiet village in Gozo. The apartment is situated in a very quiet and peaceful area on a ridge with a terrace overlooking a beautiful green valley and the blue Mediterranean sea in the distance. There is a supermarket just a few minutes away on foot and the village square is less than ten minutes away. Everything is available in the village and it is only about ten minutes away by car from Rabat the capital and from Mgarr the harbour.
