In the heart of Umbria, near the ancient city of Perugia, Villa Aureli stands like a jewel in a hilly countryside, where lines of pine trees mark the horizon. The Villa dates back to the 18th century when Count Sperello Aureli restored a 16th century tower adorning it with frescoes, prints, and painted furniture. Among the wonders of the house, the colourful Vietri ceramic floors, different in each room, the bright fist floor gallery, the garden ornamental walls and the orangerie. The present owner, Sperello di Serego Alighieri, works on astrophysics at the Firenze Observatory. He offers two large apartments where the guests enjoy the rare beauty of the villa, and two beautiful apartments in the house of Adolfo, the former gardner, who saved all the furniture of the villa from the threats of Second World War. The guests of each apartment enjoy private spaces in the large garden 'all'italiana', among the large potted lemon and orange plants or in the shade of the ancient linden trees. The park offers a wonderful view on the hilly, peaceful Umbrian countryside. The swimming pool (12x4), once an ancient water cistern, is set in a sheltered area of the park, with southern exposure. Upon booking, we serve typical dinners with our wines.
The house of Adolfo
During world war II Villa Aureli was used as headquarters by the german first and then by the allied troops. Adolfo Guelfi was the faithful gardener who saved all the furniture and precious objects contained in the villa by walling them up in a hidden room. His house was built in the eighteenth century and is adjacent to the orangerie; it has been recently restored respecting the original features. It has air conditioning and modern facilities, and original furniture from the villa. Direct access to the garden and to the swimming pool, and private spaces for open-air dining.
