Vacation Rental Description
Magnificently set on the flanks of a mountain on the Umbrian/Tuscan border, stands this meticulously restored, 16th century Tuscan villa formerly owned by the Prince of Milan. This Palazzo, which has undergone a complete but sympathetic restoration by local artisans, features huge bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. The rooms retain their original character, with windows flooded with light and stunning views over the Umbrian countryside.
Palazzo Prugnoli is a self-catered luxury holiday villa - perfect for large groups and families and ideal for special occasions. There is a weekly housekeeping service with optional in-house chef, daily housekeeping and babysitting services.
The villa is centred in 2.5 acres of gardens and surrounded by open land - providing plenty of private space to relax, admire the beautiful Italian countryside and for children to enjoy themselves throughout the day. The grounds incorporate a large swimming pool, terraces and a charming covered outside dining area with a professional catering barbeque and it’s own terrace. A giant outdoor chess game is set beside the Loggia in the midst of a box maze. Behind the house lies an impressive 20metre terrace of stone and terracotta tiles which is reached by an elegant sweeping stone staircase. This overlooks the large gated pool area - the perfect place to enjoy the breathtaking views.
In 2004 Palazzo Prugnoli was painstakingly restored. The policy for restoration was to keep and reclaim as much of the original materials so that its character was retained throughout. This was achieved by the use of local craftsmen and artisans many of whom took particular interest in the project as their fathers and forefathers had lived and worked at the house. A hands-on approach was taken by the owners to achieve the desired result with the outside being kept as close to the original as possible.
Internally, the Palazzo has eight bedrooms, three on the first floor with oversized beds, antique furniture, well appointed bathrooms with roll top baths, drench showers and ‘carrera’ marble topped hand-made vanity units. Four on the 2nd floor, two bedroom suites (arranged as above), and another two consisting of a double and a twin bedroom with a connecting Jack and Jill bathroom. The last twin bedroom is located on the ground floor.
The main living areas are located on the ground floor, including a sitting/games room with satellite TV, video/DVD, Playstation 2, table football and comfortable sofas and chairs. There is a separate utility room with washing machine, dryer and a sink.
The entire ground floor is underfloor heated. The dining room features a beautiful brick arch and a large table seating 16+ and a sitting area.
The villa's handmade painted kitchen has plenty of storage, granite work tops, an island with twin sinks, a 1.5 metre Godin range gas cooker, two larder fridge freezers, a microwave, two dishwashers and an enormous original marble sink.
The drawing room is situated on the first floor and is an airy room with a vast original open fireplace, comfortable leather sofas, honour bar, integrated Hifi and an Ipod docking station. An idyllic place to relax and unwind.
The study is located on the second floor and is fitted with fax, copier, scanner, printer and internet access. There is a good signal for blackberrys etc.
There is an excellent equestrian centre nearby and great golf courses and tennis facilities locally. Water sports can be enjoyed at Lake Trasimino. There are also zoos, wildlife parks and amusement parks for children. Complimentary golf clubs and tennis raquets are provided at the villa.
There are great local events all year round, including The Water Festival, the ancient 'Tournament of Arms', art festivals, traditional dance, jazz, classical music and of course, the Annual Chocolate Festival held in Perugia in October.
