Vacation Rental Description
Belvedere di Prato is a stone-built former farmhouse, stunningly situated at the head of a tranquil valley in Northern Umbria, with wonderful views over farmland and forested hills. Its location, just minutes from the Tuscany border near Monterchi, makes it a perfect base for exploring this fascinating region of Italy, famous worldwide for the beauty of the landscape and the almost unrivalled richness of its artistic and architectural heritage.
After being abandoned for many years, Belvedere has now been restored to create a very attractive and comfortable family house, with its own swimming pool and tennis court. The character of the old house has been preserved in the beautiful beamed ceilings, terracotta floor tiles and working fireplaces, whilst furnishings and fittings have been chosen with great care to provide every comfort. The lovely garden is well stocked with flowering plants, olive trees and vines, and there are several outside terraces for al fresco dining, or just relaxing in the shade with a book from the extensive library.
The kitchen is comprehensively equipped so that keen holiday cooks can experiment with the mouth-watering range of local delicacies, and we also provide many items such as pool towels and hairdryers so that you don’t have to use up your limited luggage allowance. Apart from books, you will find a wide selection of games, toys and videos/DVDs, for children and adults alike, not to mention garden chess, table football and a croquet set.
For days out, Belvedere is very well placed for visiting many of Tuscany and Umbria’s best known tourist destinations, with Florence, Arezzo, Siena, Cortona, Assisi, Gubbio and Perugia all within easy reach. Still closer to home, there is plenty of interest in the delightful but lesser known towns of Citta di Castello, Anghiari and Sansepolcro (the birthplace of Piero della Francesca), and nearby Monterchi is home to one of Piero's most famous works, the Madonna del Parto. Lake Trasimeno and the wild beauty of the Casentina region are close at hand, and either coast is perfectly accessible for a day at the beach.
For sports fans there is a country club nearby, with 9-hole golf course, riding stables and spa, and the surrounding countryside is perfect for walking or cycling. If shopping is on the agenda, the many markets, antique fairs, designer outlets and specialist shops will provide hours of fun, and there are feasts, festivals and musical events of every kind throughout the year.
Children are welcome at Belvedere and, though the house is not specifically designed with them in mind, we have done our best to provide entertainment in case the glories of the Renaissance begin to pall. Cots, cot linen and highchairs are available on request – please just call us if you need detailed information about items we can supply.
Belvedere is available throughout the year, and in the Spring and Autumn the region takes on a whole new character. With fewer tourists and fresher weather, sightseeing is perhaps even more pleasurable, whilst taking full advantage of the changing seasons and enticing range of shops, restaurants and local festivals. Even in Winter, full central heating and two long-burning stoves make Belvedere a cosy retreat, perhaps for Christmas or New Year with family and friends.
We are particularly pleased that many of our guests return, sometimes several times. If you would like to know more about what has attracted them, please email us or, even better, give us a call and we’ll be happy to help you with any further information you need.
We look forward to hearing from you.
