Vacation Rental Description
Villa Podernovo is a former stone farmhouse built in 1700 converted into a holiday rental.
The villa offers charming accommodation in 5 self-catering apartments.
The original, authentic rustic style has been preserved everywhere, adding a touch of essential, deliberately understated elegance to both exteriors and interiors and the necessary modern comforts such as broadband internet connection and also wi-fi in the communal areas, central heating and a private natural salt, sea-like water ecological swimming-pool.
The villa is nestled in the lush and silent nature of the ‘Val di Merse’ wildlife preserve, one of Tuscany best protected areas and enjoys a lot of tranquillity and privacy.
Yet, only a 5 minutes’ walk leads to the village, Monticiano, a classical medieval hamlet which offers most facilities, such as affordable restaurants serving traditional earthy Tuscan cuisine, a few bars, a small wine shop, a pharmacy, the post office and two Banks with cash machines.
A 25 minutes car drive takes to the beautiful town of Siena, where the famous medieval 'Palio' horserace is run, twice in summertime.
The villa is close to roofless San Galgano Abbey (7 km), which became internationally known after Andreij Tarkovskij’s movie ‘Nostagia’ was shot here.
In summertime, the abbey hosts an international opera festival as well as a classical music concert season.
Montesiepi Chapel, next to the abbey, preserves the ‘Sword in the stone’ which originated King Arthur’s legend.
Both the abbey and the chapel attract many tourists, throughout the year.
Getting married at Montesiepi Chapel has become popular and trendy in recent times, also thank to its unique, mystic setting and ambience.
Due to its proximity to the Chapel and its slightly secluded location, the villa is the ideal place to hold the celebration that follows the wedding ceremony and celebrations here are much appreciated for their essential, refined, ‘country-style’ elegance.
Villa Podernovo is also the perfect place to enjoy a truly relaxing holiday and is an excellent base for exploring the delights of Tuscany.
All major Tuscan art cities are a daily outing and so is the Maremma coast and its white sandy beaches, whether equipped (Castiglione della Pescaia) or wild and free (Uccellina regional Park).
There are plenty opportunities for horse trekking in the forests with professional guides, as well as mountain biking or trekking on foot.
For well-being lovers, the elegant ‘Buddha spa’, with thermal water outdoor and indoor pools, is only 20 Km away and several others are within 70Km.
For golf enthusiasts, there are prestigious 18-holes golf courses (Gavorrano and Punta Ala) only 70 Km away and a beautiful new one is about to open next to the ‘Buddha spa’.
The Villa is surrounded by tended gardens where lavender and rosemary bushes and oak trees are plentiful and has several areas for outdoor eating and relaxation.
The private ecological natural salt swimming-pool has sea-like water and is especially suitable for children and people with allergies. A sheltered area by the pool has a number of sun beds and deckchairs. The pool measures 11x6metres and is open May1st-October 31st.
Covered parking for 6 vehicles is available at the entrance of the property.
All local tourist information is available.
A small informal shop sells organic products made with love and care by local craftsmen, including first-class red wines produced at a family winery in Montalcino where music therapy is successfully applied to the vineyards as well as extra-virgin oil, honey and fine textiles.
