The apartment is in an ancient farmhouse on the edge of the village. It has a private entrance on a country lane; up a brick staircase you enter the living room: - on the right is a table with benches and armchairs; on the left a curtained sleeping alcove with two divan beds. Through a lobby is a double (queen-size) bedroom, a bathroom (shower over bathtub) and a galley kitchen (with a washing machine), above which is a loft with a skylight. Area 42m2 (460sq.ft). SLEEPS 2+2.

The apartment is fully equipped as a proper home for a couple. Good plumbing, soft water, Tuscan furniture, shuttered windows, country views, original art, books, ceiling fans, oriental rugs, a Ulefos wood-burner, wi-fi internet access, weekly cleaning, fresh linen, combined with the antique calm of the place, all add up to a uniquely euphoric ambience.

A private garden is available nearby, with a separate entrance.

You are a two minute walk from all the amenities of a delightful village: - a friendly snack bar with a view, a truffle and wine bar, a gourmet restaurant, a post office, a bank, a grocer, a butcher, a baker, a pharmacy, weekly market stalls. There is also a formal philosophical garden just up the lane.

L'Uliviera is a retreat in itself, but also a superb base for touring. You need a car if you want to do justice to the attractions on offer (hot springs and spas, musical events, restaurants and wineries, mountains and lakes, abbeys and churches, museums, Roman and Etruscan remains, gardens and villas, mediæval and renaissance cities, seaside resorts, wildlife parks, craft shops and factory outlets...). Book your car in advance and pick it up at an airport or station. You can park in front of the house or in the road below, if not up in the village square.
The nearest AIRPORTS are: Florence (one and a half hours), Pisa and Rome (two and a half hours), Bologna (three hours). Pisa is the favourite, - served by Ryanair, Easyjet, Aer Lingus, BA. The nearest RAILWAY STATIONS are: Asciano-Monteoliveto, Buonconvento, Sinalunga (15-20 mins), Siena (45 mins), and Chiusi (55mins).

The village of SAN GIOVANNI d’ASSO is in a hidden, unspoilt corner of Tuscany, about 45km southeast of the city of SIENA, between MONTISI (in the same Comune) and the Abbey of MONTE OLIVETO MAGGIORE. It is surrounded by spectacularly beautiful landscapes, mountains in the distance, studded with are many quaint country towns, HOT SPRINGS, abbeys, vineyards, olive groves. A paradise for artists, musicians, cyclists and walkers. There are many superb restaurants within a short drive, and an annual festa in every village.
Distinguished by its handsome brick castle and its romanesque and baroque churches, San Giovanni d’Asso hosts a TRUFFLE FAIR in November. In the castle is a Truffle Museum.

The RENT includes fresh weekly linen and cleaning, electricity, cylinder gas for cooking, and firewood in winter (for heating by wood-burner). No extras. Rentals ideally start (at 4pm) and end (at 11am) on a Saturday. PAYMENT: by cheque or bank draft, 100 euro deposit, balance 6 weeks before arrival (on receipt of which we send you keys and more information and instructions).
