Vacation Rental Description
The newly restored red villa was used in the past as a stable and then as the farm manager’s house. Today it is called 'il Villino Rosso' or the Red House because of its very beautiful red plaster work. It is located in a big working farm with cows and few horses in a 300 year old olive grove,where to walk around. It has a beautiful position up on a hill with a gorgeous view of the surrounding hills, some topped with ancient villages: Volterra is the most impressive. It is a great location from which to explore the area and even for some longer day trips. A self-catering and beautiful villa, nicely appointed with all the conveniences, to feel very at home. Everything in the house is very functional (there is even a central vacuum) but at the same time the owners have done a painstaking job, furnishing the house with beautiful art and antiques. It has also been carefully made child friendly. All bedrooms have shoe closets in them. There is a hair dryer in each bathroom. All bedrooms have ceiling fans which due to the elevation (about 180,000 m or 590,551 ft above sea level) and thick walls of the villa are sufficient to keep you cool in all but the most appalling heat waves. All bedrooms have a phone line and in the house and outside there is a free fast wireless internet connection.The gardens and grounds around the villa are beautiful. The swimming pool (pool towels are provided) is private for our guests and has the most amazing views and a black interior which creates a mirror-like appearance. It is 5 x 10 m (about 16 1/2 x 33 ft) Fabulous cypress trees and vibrant blue skies reflect beautifully. Fattoria di Monti is a farm of 300 hectares located on the southern hills of Pisa in the Volterra area. The owners raise cattle and horses, and grow cereal and hay. The surrounding landscape is gently rolling hills carpeted with verdant fields between wooded areas where the livestock grazes wild and in winter time hunters with their hunting dogs go shooting pheasants and grey partridge. On the ridges cypress lines delineate the borders of the property. Many old olive trees are cultivated in the traditional way and the owners pay particular attention to produce the best possible quality 100% Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Our guests can also use the 5 mountain bikes available. We have a hunting reserve in the winter time, and in the spring and summer time there is a clay pigeon shooting range which operates on Saturdays and Sundays. The property produces it's own vegetables during the spring and summer, the produce is available to guests. Il Villino Rosso is located next to the Villa of Monti. This impressive renaissance Villa was built in the middle of the XVI century as a hunting stay for sportsmen and city politicians. Today the owners live there and will be glad to provide local information. The nearest village is Ghizzano (6km), an ancient hamlet of 350 souls, there you can find a very good bakery, a general grocery, which has a stock of delicious local foods and a wide variety of all other everyday needs and a post office. Shops, banks, supermarkets and so on are available in Forcoli or Peccioli (12km). The villa is located between four of the main art cities of Tuscany (Florence, which is only 45 minutes by train, Pisa, Lucca, Siena). You are also near to historical small towns and villages like S.Gimignano, San Miniato and Volterra.
Facilities
The large and beautiful eat-in kitchen do is very well equipped with dish washer, oven, microwave, toaster, mixer, American coffee machine etc. This is a kitchen for serious cooks and toast makers alike and opens into an outdoor 'pergola' (Venice covered patio) with 10 chairs allowing for al fresco dining and where in the summer time you can BBQ (a gas barbecue) and eat lunch or dinner overlooking a romantic Tuscan landscape. Few step ahead the pergola there is the pool. Next to the kitchen there is the laundry, with the washing machine, the tumble dryer and the iron equipment. Each bedroom is furnished with beautiful art and antiques, has a shoe closet, a phone line, wireless satellite internet,a ceiling fan and has screens on the windows. The master bedroom is the largest room and has also a pull out sofa which can be used as a third bed. Sheets are in pure Egyptian cotton.
Activities
Extra cleaning service: 10 Euro each/Hour. Dinner (lunch) ready: we will bring you a hot dinner (lunch) when you prefer (even on the day of your arrival). On your request we can do for you the first shopping and if you like to learn some Tuscan recipes we can organize cooking lessons for you. 5 mountain bikes free available -The property produces its own vegetables during spring and summer, the produce is available to guests -We have a hunting reserve in the winter time, and in the spring and summer time there is a clay pigeon shooting range which operates on Saturdays and Sundays.Extra virgin olive oil is produced locally in our farm and on your request we will be glad to organize olive oil tasting with the different variety (monocultivar) we produce. During the Fall at harvest we organize the olive oil week or day: lectures where we take you from olive picking in the morning, to the processing stage in the afternoon.
