La Piccolina is a 500 year old stone farmhouse of 140 square metres set on a private wine and olive estate of 1000 acres.The area itself is characterised by gentle rolling hills,hilltop villages,vineyards and olive groves yet is only 15 minutes to Lucca and is widely accepted to be the most desirable part of Lucca. The seaside (Forte Marmi, Viareggio, Pietrasanta and Lido Di Camaiore) have some of the best known seaside resorts in Ital) and are only 25 kms away. The beach at Marina Vecchiano di Pisa is perhaps more natural set amongst sand dunes and you have the choice of a public beach and also a private beach. There is a very good seafood restaurant called Il Papiro where you can have lunch overlooking the sand dunes. 
 
The house was once the barn of Villa Calma (ref # 23765) and it can be booked together to accomodate up to 15 guests. 
La Piccolina retains all its original features such as the "mandolata" house of cards shaped cotto window tiles(see the photos) and original upstairs barn door. It has bundles of character typical of a 500 year old rustic farmhouse but it is also a comfortable,tastefully furnished home. 
The house consists of a sitting room,open plan kitchen/dining room,large upstairs landing,two double bedrooms and two bathrooms. All windows throughout the house have mosquito screens. 
There is a covered pergola fully lit behind the house with dining table and chairs and BBQ for alfresco meals. 
Guests have shared use of a 25 feet x 25 feet handmade teak wood swimming pool,carefully chosen to blend in unobtrusively with the surrounding strictly protected ancient forests.There are plenty of loungers,tables and chairs dotted around the grounds.  
The nearest villages are San Macario in Piano 4 kms away where there is a small shop, bakery and butchers. Sant Alessio is also 4kms away towards Lucca where there is a Conad Supermarket,petrol station,butchers,ice cream parlour La Nuvola. Also a couple of good neighbourhood trattorias like Osteria Tambellini where you can buy a cappuccino and croissant for breakfast and also dine at lunchtime in their very pretty courtyard garden. Il Bamboro just after the ice cream parlour going towards Lucca is a good neighbourhood osteria,selling simple but tasty Lucchese food at very reasonable prices.This is where the locals all come and eat ! 
 
There are several other good restaurants within 10 minute drive eg Vigna Ilaria,Vipore and Lombardo all with picturesque terraces for dining outside. 
This is serious wine growing country so there are several vineyards open for wine tasting in the area such as Tenuta Forci,Maria Teresa,Greo,Val de Sole all serving excellent wine and olive oil.It is much more pleasurable tasting and buying then grabbing a few bottles of wine from your supermarket. 
The ambience of the area is one of absolute harmony with nature,faraway from noise and pollution making it the perfect place to relax and unwind.

DVDs are available on request,as is help with booking restaurants and any general advice you may need during your holiday. The seaside is 25 minutes away with famous resorts such as Forte dei Marmi (very chic and pricey), Viareggio (lively and fun children) and Lido di Camaiore (good all round family resort).For nature lovers Mariana Vecchiano di Pisa is set amongst sand dunes. All the beach clubs have a pay per day policy. They usually include sun beds and umbrellas and shower and extras are private changing cabin with private shower inside. There is usually a bar and restaurant plus a childs play area and sometimes they have an out door pool. Depending on the resort it can cost eur 20-30 per day for 2 sun beds,chairs and umbrella, rising to 150 euros for some Forte dei Marmi clubs. Horse riding can be arranged for childern and adults on request.

Lucca is 15 minutes by car. The fortified walls provide a fascinating insight into how Lucca protected itself from marauders during its history. You can now cycle (rent bikes inside Port Elisa) or walk around the walls...a very popular paseggiata for local Lucchese in the cooler summer evenings. Shopping is a joy,Via Filungo has all many designer label clothes shops and is famouse for its old jewellery shops. There are lovely wide squares (Piazza Grande/Napoleone) where you can sip a Prosecco and people watch. 
Pisa is 30 minutes by car. 
Florence is 40 mins drive. 
San Gimignano and Volterra 1 hour away. 
Siena 1 hour 30 minutes. 
Milan and Rome are about 3 and a half hours away. 
The Cinqueterre are about 1 hour away. 
The Versilia coast is 25 minutes away.

Pieve Santo Stefano, Lucca is acknowledged to be the best part Lucca. You are immersed in countryside, olive groves and vineyards yet only 7kms from the Lucca walls. The Strada del Vino leads up to the property and there are at least 10 wine estates within 2 kms where you can go winetasting.
You are in a panoramic elevated position in the Lucca hills (about 200 metres above sea level) the air is cleaner due to fresher sea breezes in summer. This altitude is excellent for growing vines and olive groves as there are generally fewer flies and mosquitoes.
There are good restaurants nearby where you can sit outside and eat local Tuscan food whilst enjoying stunning views. If you tire of all this and want to do some sightseeing ,Lucca is a 10 minute drive from where you can be in Pisa in 25 minutes, Siena 1 hour, Florence is 45 km, Cinque Terre are only one hours drive.
You feel you are in the countryside but you are also close to Lucca so that when you tire of relaxing by the pool you can be in Lucca within 10 minutes.

La Piccolina sleeps 5 and can be booked with its larger sister house Villa Calma (ref # 23765 )to sleep a total of 15. Deposit is 50% at time of booking and the balance 8 weeks before your holiday begins. There is a 30 % cancellation fee 12 weeks before the start of your holiday or 50% 4 weeks before. Less then 8 weeks and we will retry to rebook your holiday and if successful we will give you back 50% of the total cost of your holiday. There is a safety deposit of 150 eur to be paid in cash on arrival. One baby cot provided free. Swimming pool towels are available to hire for 20 euros. There are no extra costs except heating We ask you to arrive between 3pm - 6 pm and kindly leave before 10 am. We will meet you at a nearby meeting place and take you to the property
