Vacation Rental Description
La Civetta is a lovely old farm cottage with 3 double bedrooms and garden with stunning views of Lucca,vineyards and olive groves. It forms part of an old estate where it is reputed reputed Dante sought refuge here from 1311 -1313. It is one of 5 privately owned cottages with extensive grounds and shared use of a fabulous 15 x 8 metre swimming pool with views over the towers of Lucca, Montecarlo, and even Montecatini.In addition there is also a lovely garden with wisteria covered pergola,dining table and BBQ. 
The property is situated 200 metres above sea level and there are cooling sea breezes in summer. The air is clear and there are fewer mosquitoes and midges then in property rentals lower down in the valley. This makes the area of Pieve Santo Stefano one of the most sought after parts of Lucca. There are gopod restaurants nearby, wine estates and Lucca is a mere 15 minute drive away. 
 
There are two double bedrooms and one twin bedroom, bathroom, sitting room and new hand built chestnut wood kitchen with marble butler sink, tops and brass fittings. There is a SMEG oven, dishwasher,fridge,microwave as well as a washing machine. 
The interior is rustic but furnished in an english cottage style and retains typical Tuscan features. 
 
The surrounding area is perfect for walking as it is set back 1km from the road leading down to Lucca so there is no road noise or pollution. There are shaded walkways,waterfalls and woods making it perfect for walking or cycling.There is a famous wine estate Tenuta Maria Teresa a 5 minutes walk away, where you can buy wine,olive oil and organic honey. There are several other notable wine estates such as Fabbrico San Martino in Vignale, Tenuta Forci,Greo and many others that are open for wine tasting within a 5 km radius. 
There are riding stables a 5 minute drive away where you can go for a ride along the banks of the Serchio river or in the cool of the nearby chestnut woods and arrange a picnic. Please ask for information if you wish to book a ride or take riding lessons. Children, beginners and experienced riders catered for. 
 
Distances: Lucca kms, Pisa 25 kms, Florence 45 kms, Viareggio (coast) 25 kms.Lerici,Portovenere and Cinque Terre 45 mins drive.

    • The surrounding area is lush woodland,vineyards and olive groves and is home to a variety of wildlife. During the day eagles and kites soar overhead or hovering over the nearby forests and by night you can hear the little owls called "civette" thatlive in an ancient cedar of Lebanon tree that gives shade to the garden and its lemon trees. We provide fresh cotton sheets, swimming pool towels, and a weekly clean and change of linen for guests staying for two weeks or more. We also provide a welcome basket of our own organic extra virgin olive oil,a chilled bottle of Prosecco,pasta with sauce and a bottle of red wine. The swimming pool is cleaned weekly by a private pool company.

    • Lucca is 10 minutes by car. The fortified walls provide a fascinating insight into how Lucca protected itself from marauders during its eventful history. You can now cycle (rent bikes inside Port Elisa or walk around the walls - a very popular paseggiata for local Lucchese in the cooler summer evenings. For shopping try Via Filungo which has designer label clothes shops as well more affordable names and is famous for its old jewellery shops,shoe and handbag shops. There are lovely wide squares (Piazza Grande/Napoleone) where you can sip a chilled glass of Prosecco or eat a gelato and people watch.

    Pieve Santo Stefano, Lucca is acknowledged to be the best part Lucca. You are immersed in countryside, olive groves and vineyards yet only 7kms from the Lucca walls. The Strada del Vino leads up to the property and there are at least 10 wine estates within 2 kms where you can go winetasting.
    You are in a panoramic elevated position in the Lucca hills (about 200 metres above sea level) the air is cleaner due to fresher sea breezes in summer. This altitude is excellent for growing vines and olive groves as there are generally fewer flies and mosquitoes.
    There are good restaurants nearby where you can sit outside and eat local Tuscan food whilst enjoying stunning views. If you tire of all this and want to do some sightseeing ,Lucca is a 10 minute drive from where you can be in Pisa in 25 minutes, Siena 1 hour, Florence is 45 km, Cinque Terre are only one hours drive.
    You feel you are in the countryside but you are also close to Lucca so that when you tire of relaxing by the pool you can be in Lucca within 10 minutes.

    Deposit is 50 % at time of booking and the balance 8 weeks before your holiday. There is a 30% cancellation fee if you cancel your holiday 12 weeks before the start or 50 % 8 weeks before. Less than 8 weeks notice and we will try to rebook your holiday and if successful we will give you back 50 % of the total cost. There is a safety deposit of 100 euros to be paid upon arrival. Welcome basket provided plus swimming pool towels. One baby cot provided free.

    Lovely amenities, very Tuscan! Perfect setting, just a short drive from Lucca. The owners, Ann & Anthony, were most hospitable. We spent 8 days in La Civetta and would recommend it to anyone who wants privacy, stunning views and easy access to the major towns in northern Tuscany. Don't forget to ask about Bepe........

    Beautiful, comfortable well equipped apartment in the perfect location with fantastic views of Lucca. Lovely countryside walks and a fantastic pool to cool off in. We very much enjoyed the tranquility of the apartment along with the closeness and ease of accessibility to Lucca and all it has to offer. Nearby village has a wonderful ice cream shop and handy supermarket, vineyards on the doorstep selling local wine and oil. Easy access to beautiful beaches, the historical sights of Florence and Pisa, along with the airport. All in all a great week.
