Vacation Rental Description

La Capanna is a holiday rental cottage near Florence. It is ideal for people wanting a place in a beautiful country setting with lots to enjoy locally, and also easy access by road or rail to the great cities of Florence, Siena and beyond. The location is perfect for people wanting to enjoy walking, sightseeing, swimming, museums & galleries, restaurants, wine tasting, shopping, markets, cycling, concerts and much more.

La Capanna is a 2 bedroom cottage, and is on a single floor. It was converted from an old agricultural building, and has been fully renovated retaining traditional Tuscan features such as terracotta floors and chestnut beams. Six people can use the place very comfortably. It consists of four rooms and is suitable for families or groups of up to six people, or for just couples. The fully equipped kitchen and the barbecue in the extensive gardens enable visitors to enjoy cooking and eating both in and outdoors.

La Capanna is situated in a small quiet hamlet, in a superb, scenic setting looking up into the Pratomagno Mountains on which the light is constantly changing. They are tree clad high up, descending into olive groves and vineyards. There are numerous foot paths through the mountains, and a wealth of local flora and fauna. All around are typical Tuscan views, with cypress trees, olive groves and old buildings scattered amongst vineyards. The area is renowned in this part of Italy for the freshness of the air, and the local olive oil is generally held to be amongst the finest in the world.

The entertainment facilities at the house and locally are numerous and include an outdoor pool and an indoor heated pool. The local village has a supermarket, a chemist and many other shops, and there are lots of excellent restaurants in easy reach.

Some of Italy's best walking country surrounds the house, from easy walks in the valley to more demanding mountain walks.

Horse riding can include instruction, and is less than 1 km from La Villetta.

Travel Info: Although Florence is the nearest airport there are very few international flights. The main airport for the region is Pisa which is about 120 km from the bouse. The A1 autostrada (motorway) which runs from Milan to Rome is only 8 km from the house.

Reggello is a district ('Comune') in the the area known as the Valdarno Superiore (the upper Arno Valley) which nestles between the hills of Chianti and the Pratomagno mountains. These are an off-shoot of the Apennine mountains which run through central Italy. As well as producung the famous Chianti wines (mostly on the west side of the valley) the area is well known for the production of some of the finest olive oil in the world, mostly on the east slopes where the town of Reggello is located.

The views across the Arno Valley from the hills in the 'Comune di Reggello' are breath-taking, and the mountains towering above Reggello are mostly tree covered or dotted with small olive groves. The valley below provides a transport conduit for the main A1 motorway and for the railway line, both connecting Milan to Rome via Florence which is at the northern end of the valley. It also contains many small towns such as Incisa Valdarno, Figline Valdarno, San Giovanni, Montevarchi and others, which provide a wide range of easily accessible commercial facilities, as well as a small amount of light industry.

Within the Comune di Reggello is the village of Cascia, famous for its remarkable beautiful romanesque church which contains a celebrated painting bu Masaccio. Another famous place within Reggello is Vallombrosa, a beauty spot up in the mountains with an abbey and views that reach as far as Florence and beyond.

Prices are for two people, there is an additional charge of £21 for any extra people. People wishing to use our sheets and towels are charged £8 per person, but visitors may take their own. Payment may be by cheque, credit card (via Paypal) or bank transfer. One third of the basic rate is payable when booking, the rest 8 weeks before arrival. A returnable security deposit of £50 is taken.

'Thank you for sharing your fantastic house and garden with us. We've had one of our most memorable holidays to date. We've gone for bike rides, done walks from the house, been to all the main places...We've dined at some superb restaurants, drunk fine wines, barbecued many times in your garden (what a spectacular setting), seen the amazing fireflies...had a trip to The Mall (gulp) where I bought a beautiful leather bag for a fraction of the price I would pay here...can't wait to go again...perfect location for that area and all its wonderful sites and places to visit...Thank you again for a fantastic holiday.' This was all we hoped for: a charming, comfortble and very well equipped place with a fantastic view into the mountains from the beautiful garden where we spent many an hour sunbathing, eating and sipping gorgeous local wine. The area was also perfect for us as we could get into Florence and lots of other places easily, or if wanted to stay in the area go walking in the mountains (not too strenuous I'm glad to say!). Eating out and shopping were simple and the local food is just wonderful. In short we can't wait to return!! (John D - London
