Vacation Rental Description
Ca di Chio is a 16th century farmhouse sleeping upto 5. It has high chestnut beamed ceilings and hand-made terracotta floors. A separate cottage comprising a 16th century chapel sleeps 2. (The cottage is priced seperately. E-mail owner for details if required). The pool is for exclusive use of guests (maximum 8). Beautiful panoramic views. Quiet, secluded location but only a few minutes drive from CASTIGLION FIORENTINO with all amenities. The property was part of an ancient estate whose history goes back to Etruscan times. The views down the Val di Chio from the terrace to Castiglion Fiorentino on one side and Montecchio Castle on the other, are breathtaking - one of the best in Tuscany. The property is in a beautiful setting bounded by ancient woodland and surrounded by olive terraces. The grounds are extensive and border on National Park land. The houses are stone built, full of character and have many original features. Castiglion Fiorentino is 5 minutes drive away and has everything you may require, including a main-line railway station. The larger historic towns of CORTONA in one direction and AREZZO in the other, are 15 and 25 minutes away respectively. There are gentle ramps leading to the property and steps to the pool. Ca' di Chio is on 2 levels, and there are stairs to the main bathroom and mezzanine. If you wish, please contact us to check suitability for your party. We are happy to provide any information you require. The property is easily accessed via a short white road through vineyards. The views all around are amazing, some of the best you will see.
The pool is 10x5m, newly built and for exclusive use of guests. It is 1.4m deep at the shallow end, with Roman steps and 2.4m at the deep end. It is set amongst olive and pine trees on a terrace adjacent to Ca di Chio. There are sunbeds and umbrellas and a heated pool-side shower. A shady gazebo with table and chairs allows relaxing with a book, or alfresco dining amongst the olive trees.
Wildlife is abundant here, the property being on the edge of a National Park. You might see anything from a wild tortoise to a porcupine, or a hoopoe to a hawk.
You are free to roam in the extensive grounds and beyond. You can walk forever if you wish! You will ideally have a car to get you to town or beyond, but we can organise taxis for you, to the Railway Station for example, or help you plan your trips, if you wish.
The gas-fired central heating is charged at cost price as used, in the cooler months. There are NO other service charges. Cotton Bed linen and all towels, including pool towels, are provided. Weekly change. Hot water is via a new solar panel system. There is wireless internet (bring your laptop). No smoking allowed, except on designated paved/gravel areas outside. Large parking area.
The owners are on site, for maintenance purposes only, but are delighted to give any assistance you need.
Sorry, but the property is not suitable for pets, due to a neurotic resident cat!

Being in eastern Tuscany, we are 2 hours drive to the sea, but Lake Trasimeno with its beaches, water sports, boat trips and historic towns and markets, is 30 minutes away by car or 20 minutes by train (Castiglione del Lago).
The nearest airport is Perugia (45-60 minutes drive). Ryanair flies there 4 times a week. Ryanair and EasyJet have regular flights to Rome Ciampino (2 hours drive or train/bus), Pisa (2 hours drive or train), Bologna, Forli and others.
There are well stocked local shops which are open late, and supermarkets in Castiglion Fiorentino, 5 mins drive away.
The ancient and wonderful CORTONA with its unbelievable views and typical Tuscan restaurants, and AREZZO with designer shops on one hand and medieval arts and Roman amphitheatre on the other, are 15 and 25 minutes away respectively. SIENA is a 1 hour drive away and FLORENCE is 1 hour by car or train. We are 20 minutes from the main north/south A1 autostrada.

Prices are for the property per week in euro for 2010. Payment in pounds sterling is accepted at the prevailing rate. Gas is charged at cost price as used, for winter heating only. There are NO other charges. Booking may be made by e-mail or by phone and will be held for 7 days pending receipt of deposit. A deposit of 30% is required immediately, with balance payable 8 weeks before. Payment can be made by bank to bank international money transfer or IMO. We take a refundable damage deposit of 200 euro. For late bookings, please pay entire amount with the booking. On cancellation, we will refund 100% if you tell us 8 weeks before, or in any case if we are able to rebook the period. Otherwise 25% only is refunded.
