Le Oche Grigie, a Country House, is located in the picturesque hills of Tuscany, just outside the village of Farneta and a few steps from a 9th century Abbey (featured in the movie 'Under the Tuscan Sun'). We are located ten minutes outside the historic Etruscan city of Cortona. The House, built in the late 1800’s, offers 5 apartments and has been restored to the traditional Tuscan style complete with antique furniture. All lodging has air conditioning and heating. The owners are onsite daily to give information and help with travel arrangements. Each unit includes a full kitchen, a modern bathroom, and two or three beds. Rooms are available separately, or the house can be rented as a whole. Ground floor apartments have patios with outdoor furniture. The swimming pool, surrounded by a beautiful olive garden, is an ideal place to relax. A riding school is nearby, as well as a golf course and a thermal hot springs. Privacy is respected. The rooms and grounds are meticulously kept.

Conveniently located, Le Oche Grigie has easy access to historic sights in Tuscany, Umbria, Rome and Lazio. The closest of which is Cortona, an important city that was once one of the 12 cities of the Etruscan League. A traditional center for artistic production, proud citizens of Cortona can link their ancestry to the founders of Troy and Rome. Founded by an Etruscan tribe in the 6th century BC, by the end of the 3rd century Cortona was a Roman colony. The magnificent walled city sits on the side of Mt. St. Egidio and affords a grand view of the Chiana Valley and Lake Trasimeno. Cortona is surrounded by a two-mile long wall and has a wealth of places to see within the city, including the Casali Palace, the Etruscan Academy, the Museum, a Medici Fortress and various churches. Ten miles in any direction there are a wealth of castles, palaces, churches and vineyards to be explored. Other cities are also within close range to our House, distances include: 30 miles-Siena, 43 miles-Perugia, 55 miles-Assisi, 20 miles-Arezzo, 15 miles-Monepulciano, 28 miles-Pienza, 10 miles-Trasimeno Lake, 75 miles-Florence and 110 miles-Rome.
Excursions in the area Our Country House is in a very advantageous location for daily excursions to various regional sites of interest ranging from artistic and cultural offerings to wine tasting and great culinary delights. An example of an excellent day trip would begin with a visit to Montepulciano, with its beautiful 14th century palaces and cantinas loaded with fine wines. On your way to S. Quirico d'Orcia, (the Val d'Orcia site has been declared Property of the Humanity) you could take an enchanted Journey through Pienza. Upon arrival in St. Quirico d'Orcia, you can rest and take in the wonderful atmosphere of the village church, built in the 9th century. Don't miss Bagnovignoni, only 3 miles from St. Quirico. It will surprise you with its glorious plaza, which used to be a large ancient spa. If you are getting tired of walking, you can relax in a traditional family restaurant in Montalcino, where you'll be able to taste a local red wine or a highly regarded Brunello. Apartments are rented in high season on a weekly basis, from Saturday to Saturday. Check-in time is after 4:00 pm; check-out time is before 10:00 am.
Prices per week in euros. Included: Weekly change of bed and bath linen. Electricity, water, gas. Extra bed for children up to age 5. Children up to one year of age stay free. Not included: Heating (15 euro/day apartment flat rate). Washing machine use (3 euros/load). Pets: supplemental cost on prior arrangement. Air-conditioning: 1 euro/hr of consumption. Payment: Upon booking Send 30% of total by postal order or wire transfer as deposit –Settlement cash on arrival. B&B solution is available.
In Low and Mid season could be reserved even for more short periods (at the minimum of 2 nights). In this case, if you want, we can offer breakfast. Reservation may be changed or cancelled up to 30 days before your arrival date; after that, you will forfeit your deposit.
