The accommodation at ‘La Casa Giardino’ has been tastefully modernised but with a keen eye on retaining the rustic charm. The house comprises of two bedrooms, each sleeping two people, a shower room and a fully fitted kitchen, a full range of cupboards, ample work surfaces, fridge, dishwasher, oven and hob. All the rooms are fully furnished in a style sympathetic to the house. There is a beautiful terraced area to the front of the house with relaxing chairs and pool, ideal for “cooling off” together with facilities for bar-b-que. (guests from Collina have use of the pool but as it is slightly ofset from the house this will not disturb or distract you). During the relevant seasons guests can pick grapes from the vines on the terrace and walnuts and olives from the trees in the garden. Nothing can be fresher than those picked by yourself.
‘La Casa Giardino’is situated in the Casentino, an Apennine valley 48Km (30 miles) east of Florence. and 30km (18 miles) from Arezzo Wlilst its neighbour ‘Chianti’ is more well known, The Casentino is better thought of for its natural beauty and historical interest. Hill towns such as Poppi and Bibiena rise up out of the landscape, complementing the surrounding hills.
The areas of Casentino, Monte Falterona and Campigna are now designated as a National Park protecting their natural beauty for generations to come. The whole of the Casentino abounds in art, not to mention the peace and quiet of the forest where two major spiritual and religious centres of The Christian world find their ideal setting- Camaldoli and La Verna Sanctuary. The area has many restaurants, bars and good shopping facilities. A 9 hole golf course is situated in Poppi, on a hillside with wonderful panoramic views across the beautiful green countryside. On a visit to ‘La Casa Giardino’ you will be living in the small village of Spalanni,, a collection of stone cottages nestling above the larger villages of Strada and Castel San Nicolo. Spalanni enjoys spectacular views across the valley and the mountains beyond The village of Spalanni was once a Convent in the 13th century . After falling into disrepair the 50 or so houses of Lower Spalanni were built around the ruins of the Convent around the 18th century, slowly being modernised as they passed down from generation to generation. Higher up the hillside lies the small hamlet of Higher Spalanni.
An excellent public transport system, both train and bus, run frequent services to both Rome and Florence for those that want to venture out but the local area also has a wealth of historic monuments and sights if you prefer to stay nearer home - the one handed six hour clock at Strada, Poppi castle and the historic streets of Bibbiena
