Vacation Rental Description
Casa Singerna is situated about halfway between the medieval hilltop town of Anghiari and the village of Caprese Michelangelo, the birthplace of the titan of the renaissance. Also nearby is the town of Sansepolcro, birthplace of painter Piero della Francesca, where you can enjoy an evening stroll in its lovely historic centre.

The villa is well placed near the Tuscany/Umbria border for excursions to many medieval and renaissance towns for which the regions are famous. Florence, Siena, Perugia, Assisi, Arezzo, Cortona and Gubbio -- to name just a few! -- are all within reach as day trips.

From the main road that leads in the direction of Caprese Michelangelo, a short white road threads past several old stone buildings to the villa. The hamlet of 4 houses is known as Castro but now has 1 permanent resident, being your hostess. "Castro" means "fort", and in ancient times, the settlement was a staging post on the marching route for the Roman/Byzantine army between Rome and Ravenna. Records at the Camaldoli monastery point to the existence of a chapel that dates back to 1149.

The property spans 25 acres (11 hectares) and extends from the edge of the hamlet down the hillside through forest to the banks of the Singerna River that feeds into Lake Montedoglio. The villa directly overlooks its own vineyard and olive grove. Surrounding fields sport golden grain, brilliant poppies, fragrant alfalfa or glorious sunflowers, depending on the season.

The nearest train station is in Arezzo, a stop on the main rail line between Florence and Rome. It should however be noted that not all trains between Florence and Rome stop at Arezzo. It is a 45 minute drive to Casa Singerna from the train station. During the summer months it is also possible to take your car on the train from various stations within Europe to a final Italian destination of Bologna or Florence.

Casa Singerna is located about halfway between Anghiari and Caprese Michelangelo on the SP47,an easy drive from either the A1 or the E45 motorways. Detailed driving directions will be sent to you. Car rentals are best arranged before arriving in Italy and can be organized for pick-up at any airport or in the nearby city of Arezzo.
GPS Coordinates: you can pinpont the location of the villa at: N43° 36.212' E12° 01.377'

"Stayed in the lovely villa in September 2008. Fantastic location, very easy getting around from this home base. Nearby towns offer everything "Italian" you'd need/want. Will be coming back in the future.

When we planned this trip to Italy, we wanted everything to be perfect. We wanted a nice place, with a nice view. What we had here was beyond what we imagined, from the amazing and beautiful lake to the perfectly decorated villa. Thanks you Sue, for making our vacation so much better than what we thought it would be. But most of all, thanks, Sue for the warm welcome, the patience when we called you for help.

What a wonderful place to spend Easter. We found the villa a perfect setting to return to after many early morning departures with late night returns. Great location for experiencing the Tuscany area. Thanks.

When we were looking for an accommodation in the Umbria area, we came upon this beautiful villa. The pictures were inviting, but when we showed up it was even more beautiful. Unfortunately we didn’t have the best weather but it was a cozy area inside which made dinners and breakfast very pleasant. We had a wonderful time exploring the area. The kitchen was well equipped which made it easy to make tasty dinners!. Thanks for a great stay. Ciao!

It’s really “una casa bellissima” and we passed some days together in harmony and calmness – really great days and we’re sad to leave. Good luck for Mrs. Hill and thank you for your kindness.

    Granny escapes to Tuscany

Having lived in London all my adult life, I did the one thing people tell you not to do: sold my London house in a week and bought these two houses and land. I have to say that it was carefully vetted by my three sons and their wives, who thought it would be a wonderful opportunity to have a family home in Tuscany, but luckily I have never regretted it even for a second, and the 9 grandchildren, when they come think it's the best place ever.
The Italians are so friendly, welcoming and endlessly helpful. And have I needed their help! There is always something that needs fixing, from the mundane of a blocked dishwasher to the 'exotic' of an errant herd of 50 sheep who decided to take up residence in the olive grove. It turned out that they had come from 2 miles away!
The big bonus is the guests who come here, from all over the world. This is a marvellously peaceful place in which to relax, but there are also so many places to visit. People have lived here for 1000 years or more, and Perugia, for instance, mainly medieval, is built on Etruscan foundations. The Italians love their history, and every village has an event in the summer months to celebrate, when they dress up in medieval costumes and enact historical events. Music too, they love. Local and well known international players perform in all the towns during the summer in the local churches or outside in the piazzas. It's a true delight. Then there is the food - the Italian love eating and they cook things in season so you eat porcini collected that day from the woods, and (sadly) the most delicious beef steaks with truffles from the local farm. I have been so lucky in finding a very special corner of Italy in which to live, and it is brilliant when other people can come and gather their own experiences from it.
