Vacation Rental Description
The accommodation at ‘La Casa Collina’ has been tastefully modernised but with a keen eye on retaining the rustic charm of the house, from its chestnut beams, ceilings and doors to the magnificent stone fireplace in the kitchen. The house comprises of two bedrooms, each sleeping two people, a living room which has a sofa bed if required,a shower room and a fully fitted kitchen. All the rooms are fully furnished in a style sympathetic to the house. At the rear of the house is a large raised terrace balcony ideal for eating ‘Al Fresco’ whilst soaking up the stunning views across the valley or just sit and relax around the pool, only 30 meters away shared with our other property, Casa Giardino where guests make pick the grapes from the vines or walnuts and olives from the trees in the garden.
Siuated in The Casentino, an Apennine valley 48Km (30 miles) east of Florence and 30Km (18 miles) from Arezzo. The Valley has a wealth of centuries old forests, castles, hill villages and Romanesque parishes.Situated on the eastern side of Tuscany, Casentino boasts a long artisan tradition within the fields of woodwork, wrought iron work, stonework and woollen cloth; it is a special blend of charm and values in which mankind still maintains its harmonic relationship with the environment. Casentino is considered by right one of the most beautiful valleys in Tuscany.
The areas of Casentino, Monte Falterona and Campigna are now designated as a National Park protecting their natural beauty for generations to come. The whole of the Casentino abounds in art, not to mention the peace and quiet of the forest where two major spiritual and religious centres of The Christian world find their ideal setting- Camaldoli and La Verna Sanctuary.
On following Tourist itineries in Casentino you will find that it is shrouded in mystery and your trip will turn into a cultural and naturalistic adventure with a whole series of excursions in valleys, along mountain ridges and in centuries old woods. On a visit to ‘La Casa Collina’ you will be living in the small village of Spalanni,, a collection of stone cottages nestling above the larger villages of Strada and Castel San Nicolo. Spalanni enjoys spectacular views across the valley and the mountains beyond. The village of Spalanni was once a Convent in the 13th century . After falling into disrepair the 50 or so houses of Lower Spalanni were built around the ruins of the Convent around the 18th century, slowly being modernised as they passed down from generation to generation. Higher up the hillside lies the small hamlet of Higher Spalanni.
The property is ideally situated for visiting Rome or Florence, with excellent public transport, bus and train to both destinations but there is also wonderful historic sights in nearby areas for those who do not want to travel too far. The one handed six hour clock in Strada that towers over the church, Poppi Castle or historic Della Verne to name but a few.

Casa Collina has been beautifully modernised but with empathy to its 15 century origins. It is the ideal place for visiting nearby historic sights and cities or just sitting back and relaxing in the tranquility of the surroundings with the only sounds to be heard are that of silence. The house is approached along a narrow cobbled path from the parking area, with no vehicles passing directly through the village so lovely and quiet and perfectly safe for children. Although the village does not have a shop or restaurant there is a wide selection of both in nearby Strada and bountiful eating places to sample the wonderful Tuscan cuisine within easy travelling distance.
