Vacation Rental Description
Pigna is a beautiful medieval village 20 minutes from the coastal resorts of Bordighera and Ventimiglia and a further twenty from the beaches of the French Riviera. The glamorous Principality of Monaco can be reached in forty minutes. The village has several shops, restaurants, a bank and a post office. There is a river running through the village with beautiful natural swimming lakes where in the summer everyone relaxs and takes a dip in the refreshing water. In the summer there are numerous cultural events and dances in which everyone takes part. It is great fun! The house is in the old part of town and it is like stepping back in time although we have all the mod cons for your comfort. We are in an excellent location because of the close proximity to France and the ski resort of Limone which is only an hour and a half away. Italians from cities such as Venice and Milan come to Pigna in the summer to escape from the crowds and enjoy a slower pace of life.
As well as the beautiful beaches of the Riviera there are many beautiful mountain villages to explore. There is a four star spa hotel with beauty treatments and an indoor and outdoor swimming pool. A nearby campsite also has a swimming pool.
The nearest airport is Nice in France. This is approximately one hour away with Genoa being two hours away. You can pick up a car from the airport or we can arrange airport transfers for you. It's also possible to have a leisurely drive through France.
Guests can either sit in the piazza and watch the world go by whilst enjoying a cool drink or for the more active there are many spectacular walks around Pigna and the surrounding area. There is also a tennis court in the village.
All our guests have commented on the friendliness and helpfulness of the people and the beauty of the area. There are so many things to see and do. Liguria has the best climate in Italy because of its position between the Alps and the sea.
There is always someone on hand to ensure your stay is enjoyable and goes smoothly.
Facilities
Charming village house on four levels. The kitchen and dining room is on the first floor with characteristic vaulted ceiling. On the second floor is the bathroom with shower and a small bedroom with bunk beds and a third pull out bed. On the third floor is the master bedroom with double bed. On the fourth floor is the beautiful, sunny living room with two small balconies and cathedral ceiling. Gaze out at night and see the village of Castel Vittorio seemingly suspended in the air. There is a large sofa that converts to a double bed and a Tv with English channels as well as a selection of DVD's and books for our guests to enjoy. The house is south facing and gets the sun all day but the thick walls keep it cool in the summer. We have central heating for those cooler winter months. We have rare vehicle access close to the front door for unloading and parking is about 50 metres away. Wine, milk, bread, biscuits, coffee and jam is provided on arrival.

Prices quoted are for up to 4 persons. Any additional person will be charged and extra £25. There is an additional charge of 50 Euros payable on arrival to cover cleaning at the end. A 20% deposit is required to secure booking and the balance is payable eight weeks before the rental period

We've just returned from our second visit to this lovely home in Pigna. The house, in typical Ligurian style, is on 4 floors and has all of the home comforts one would need to experience the Italian lifestyle. Set in the heart of the town, the house is well situated for walks and discovering the local area. The quant and mediaeval town of Pigna is well worth exploring and the picturesque town of Dolceaqua, a short drive away, is a must. The Italian Riviera is around 18 kilometres away and is one of the most beautiful coastlines in Europe. Well situated for France a trip to Monaco, Nice and other French Riviera resorts are a short train ride away from Ventimiglia (the main train station) and very reasonable in terms of cost.
The house is well furnished, bright and spotlessly clean. The view from the upstairs balconies are a joy to behold and waking up to the sound of the bells of San Michele (the 15th century church that stands metres away from the house) make the experience all the more unusual and truly Italian.
We love Italy and visit there quite often. Pigna and this lovely home give a taste of Italian life and are certainly worth a visit. There are a few good restaurants within walking distance to the house. La Terme serves fresh local produce and their home made dishes have won a number of major regional and national food awards. Sur Pont, in the village itself, is newly opened and provides a good selection of pizzas and hot food in pleasant surroundings.
Pigna itself has a number of festivals over the summer period that is well worth looking out for. We experienced the feast of San Michele which was 5 days of festivities including 2 dances and a ravioli and gnocchi festival - absolutely fantastic!
So, if you are looking for something quite different and want to explore and enjoy the Ligurian landscape, Pigna and this little house in particular offers a fantastic base to the mountains and Italian/French coastline. We'll be going back again soon.

Everything was wonderful, it was exactly what we wanted (old Italy) we fell in love with Pigna and the surrounding area and the generosity of the people was very good. We loved the house- beautiful! and the wedding was more then we could have dreamt, everything from the restaurant, photographer, flowers etc.. Liam and Barbara, Feb 2008
