Vacation Rental Description
Lovely spacious 5 bedroom villa in 3 acres with swimming pool and panoramic views, within easy reach of Rome.The house is situated on the slopes of the Cimini mountains, with truly breathtaking views in all directions of rolling countryside and then mountains, 5 minutes from the beautiful medieval town of Soriano with it's famous October chestnut festival and spectacular castle. It is a spacious and comfortable house with 3 large terraces/balconies for sunbathing and a lovely pool. It has a spectacular covered terrace area for long lunches and dinners with the lovliest view. Looking in one diection there are wonderful views right over to the Central Italian mountains, and then the other way to the Monte Cimini. It sits surrounded by it's own vineyard, olive groves, and nut orchard in a quiet rural location, with masses of space for kids to roam safely to their hearts content. It is 20 mins from the papal city of Viterbo, 30 mins from scenic Orvieto, 1 hour from the excellent beaches of the Tuscan seaside and an hour north of Rome. Florence and Sienna are approx. 2 hours drive away. It is situated in beautiful countryside, very similar to neighbouring Umbria and Tuscany but far less touristy. Soriano itself is a very friendly historic medieval market town in a spectacular location with all the necessary amenities, with excellent and reasonably priced restaurants. In the first two weeks of October, they have their famous Chestnut festival with nightime spectaculars and medieval pageants in the main square. It's a wonderful time to experience the real communal atmosphere of an untouristy but historic Italian town. There is lots of excellent eating in surrounding towns, typically featuring wonderful fresh local produce.
Rome is easily accessible by car. In the Summer particularly, you can park very near the Coluseum all day easily and cheaply - we often do. We can give you directions if you like! Rome is readily accessible by train from Orte station (it is on the main Florence/Rome line), with frequent cheap fast trains to the city centre, so day trips are easy. The Viterbo area is renowned for its many thermal springs many of which can be accessed for free. Nearby are the spectacular volcanic lakes di Vico and Bolsena, the latter with it's excellent beaches. There are beautiful chestnut and beach forests on the Monte Cimini right behind the villa; excellent for long cool walks in Spring and Summer. In spring and autumn there are carpets of wild flowers beneath the beach trees at the summit - truely magical.
We have a local fluent English speaking house manager who will give outstanding help and guidance about what to do and where to go if you are interested. She lives just down the road is is always at the end of the phone to sort out an problems you may have. She is a close family friend, extremely charming, and will even give you guided tours of local historic sites if you are interested - she's a mine of information. She will also leave you completely alone to enjoy your holiday under your own devices if that's what you want!
Facilities
In addition to the above there is also a toaster, kettle and hairdryer available in the kitchen and on the terrace there is a barbecue. There are bikes for picturesque rides down the little local country roads. There is a large games room with full sized table-tennis table and table football. We have large grounds with vineyard, olive, peach, pear and hazlenut trees, for children (and adults!) to play in and explore.
Activities
We are situated on the boarder between Lazio and Umbria near the historic city of Viterbo and within easy reach of Rome (one hour's drive away). Orivieto, Todi and the Tuscany coast beaches are all short drives away. Soriano is the nearest town - it is an extremely pretty medieval walled town, with castle and amazing panoramic views of the Tiber valley and Appenine mountains beyond. Viterbo has great shopping as of course does Rome! It is also a wonderful walled medieval (and rather undiscovered) city, with papal palace and many places of historic interest. It also sports famous volcanic springs and spas, some of which can be visited at night, where you can luxuriate in the hot baths and gaze at shooting stars! The Cimini mountains and beautiful Lago di Vico are close by as are Montefiascone and the Lago di Bolsena with its lovely sandy beaches. Golf at the world renowned course of Le Querce at Sutri is a 20 Minute drive away.

- Nearest Train Station : Orte (mainline) or Soriano at 10 kilometers distance
- Nearest Town : Soriano nel Cimino at 5 kilometers distance
- Travel Info: The easiest way to get to our villa is to fly to Rome, then drive as we are out of Rome in the Lazio countryside surrounded by the Cimini Mountains. It's roughly 1 hours drive. We will provide detailed travel instructions on booking. We are not hard to find. As we are in the countryside, you will probably need a car. To drive, we are 15 minutes drive from the main A1 Rome/Florence motorway.

There is a £400 breakages deposit paid with the final rental payment and returnable on completion of your holiday - a receipt will be provided. There is a 100 euro cleaning bill which also covers all clean bedding and bathroom towels to be paid at the end of your stay. If you wish to have your bedding washed after one week there is an extra 50 euro charge. To book the villa the initial deposit will be half the rental with the other half due 2 weeks before the start of your holiday.

Excellent Family Villa

A fantastic villa that exceeded our expectations, the pictures do not do it justice. There is plently of room in the Villa (there was 9 of us) and the swimming pool is a real bonus. It is easy to get to Rome from here. The station is only 15 minutes away by car, which you do need. The local town of Soriano is exactly how you imagine rural Italy is. The owners are very helpful and always replied to our emails. The lady who maintains the property, speaks perfect English and is extremely helpful. I would definitely recommend this villa.

A Summer to Remember

My very large family of 7 plus my mother stayed very comfortably at Casa Glenister. That 1 week provided us with memories that will last a lifetime! We ventured to Rome on some days and others lounged by the pool. Soriano gave us a glimpse of an unspoiled rural Italian town. Flori is the best! She provided us with all kinds of tips and information. The pasta and cooking class that she and her mother put on was absolutely wonderful! You will need a car as the train station is about 15-20 min, but a trip to the local market in Sant Eutuzio is only 1km away, a quick little walk. The panoramic views are breathtaking and the kids loved playing in the pool. This is the very definition of a classic country italian villa and will provide any group with great vacation. My kids are already looking forward to our next visit. The owners are great people, quick to respond to emails and very accommodating to our needs. A week is definetly not enough to see everything. The pictures are accurate, but it looks even better in person, everything was clean and well maintained. We would highly recommend this property to anyone!

We spent a lovely two weeks in this beautiful house in August 2010. It was a great holiday. The pool was lovely, the house roomy, well-equiped and comfortable. Despite being the middle of August it was always pleasantly cool at night so no difficulty sleeping. Flori who looks after the house locally was extremely helpful and suggested local excursions. Despite not being on the main tourist map there is a lot to do and see in the area. A car is an absolute necessity as even the local shop is a few miles away. All the nearby restaurants proved excellent and are good value compared to elsewhere in Europe.
