1st floor Apartment with stunning Panoramic Sea, Coastline and Mountain Views.
My wife and I first visited Calabria in 2007 and fell in love with it's stunning coastline, beautiful mountains, hills and old villages. The people are friendly and welcoming and the rural area on the west coast where we finally purchased, peaceful and tranquil with Tropea, the popular picturesque medieval town only fifteen minutes drive away. We had travelled all over Calabria on several visits and finally found this property that ticked all the boxes for us. The property was built in 2007 and we purchased in October 2008.
Calabria has not been 'discovered' by the 'Brit' who tend to visit northern Italy. The northern Italians come down in large numbers in the summer because of the relatively cheap holidays, excellent quality of food, the beaches and the sunshine. The Germans, Dutch & the Fench have been coming down to southern Italy for many years.
The apartment is in a gated resort of only 14 apartments. There's a large swimming pool that has a jacuzzi and children's pool, a beach volley ball court and a large landscaped garden and orchard. It is located in a peaceful rural location yet close enough to the busy beaches of Grotticelle and Tropoea where you will find all the modern facilities you need.
Only 10 minutes (700m) walk you will find the beach at Santa Maria di Ricadi with its beachside restaurants, pizzerias and supermarket. There are many restaurants in the locality the favourites of mine because they are so near are La Barbonne at Santa Maria, La Mecure near Coccorino beach and just up the road Sea View Agriturismo. To have really locally produced food cooked in the true Calabrian style, Curatola Agriturismo is 15 minutes drive away just beyond Splinga where the famous Calabrian spicy Nduja is produced.
If you are looking for activities, water sports, Scuba diving, fishing, boat hire, horse riding, mountain bike hire, golf are available close by. For sight-seeing the ferry to Sicily, the Aspromonte and Sila National Parks are only an hour and a half drive away if hiking, mountain walking and lakes are your thing. You can Ski in the winter when circumstances permit in both National Parks.
You can leave your car at Ricadi station and get a train and take a scenic journey along the west and east coasts of Calabria.
Go south by train or car and visit Scilla a particular favourite place of mine where you will find glorious sea food restaurants in the renovated old fishermens cottages that are lapped by the sea in Chianalea near the towns harbour.
Holiday makers to Calabria will find something suitable for persons for all ages.
