Private walled terrace allows 'al fresco' dining or just lounging. Comfortably sleeps 2. Parking on quiet street outside. Many cafes, bars & restaurants are within minutes walking distance. Saturday evenings in July/August sees local townsfolk hosting regional food fairs, singing & dancing the traditional 'tarantella', & performing free open air concerts & musicals. Nearby Archeological Museum in former convent houses the world's 2nd largest Messapican collection. 7th century frescoes discovered during restoration. 9th century castle, 13th century cathedral. Ideal location from which to explore wide sandy beaches or rocky coves of this olive-tree/vineyard-filled Salentine peninsula. Marina di Ugento & pretty fishing-port T S Giovanni only 7 mins by car.
Unique benefits of the property
Our house is located on the corner of a quiet street so it is extremely quiet and yet it is on the edge of the historic centre with all the convenience of nearby shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. We value the high ceilings which keep the house cool in the summer and the spacious rooms. The house retains a lot of the original features. While we can walk out of the front door and into a bar or restaurant it is just as easy to pick up something at the local shops and prepare something at home for al fresco dining on the roof terrace.

Nothing quite prepares you for what you find behind the doors at No.34. We loved the grandiose furnishings and star vaulted ceilings. One of the most unusual properties we have stayed in!

A lovely beautifully furnished apartment, we particularly enjoyed the space and comfort of Villa Ugento. It is clear that a great deal of thought and care has gone into this unique holiday home – something that was evident from the photos on the website and which attracted us to it in the first place. But there is still a ‘wow’ factor when you first walk in. It felt like we were staying in our own palace for the week!

What an amazing holiday. I found Ugento beyond charming and the people that we met were some of the friendliest we could have hoped for. Your house is stunning and more than that the fact that it is also a home just oozes out of every piece of well chosen furniture and every ancient corner.

    Owners Profile
Artist/Designer couple have created their palatial holiday retreat in undiscovered Italy

We are both artists/designers and together we share a wide range of experience in most design fields, including interior and textile design. As a result we have thoroughly enjoyed restoring our historic townhouse and maintaining its original characteristics and features. We love the friendliness of the southern Italians and their relaxed way of living. In the relatively undiscovered town of Ugento we become fully immersed in the Italian lifestyle: stepping out the door to buy fresh healthy food produced by local growers; dining in friendly restaurants at affordable prices. We love to cycle to the beach along the gentle slopes where goat herds wander through ancient vines and gnarled olive trees. We crave the endless sunshine tempered by the cooling breezes from the bluest of seas.

Although we researched the whole of Puglia, we knew immediately we walked through the beautiful historic centre of the small town of Ugento that this was the place for us. The architecture is amazing, the people are the friendliest we have ever met; the beach is just 7 minutes drive by car. Ugento is not a tourist town, but a place where people live and work. Throughout the year we feel part of its vibrant community. On arrival we quickly relax and unwind after the stresses of modern UK existence. We still find places to discover in the Salento peninsula, from its easily accessible sandy beaches on one coast to the wild rocky coves on the other. Ugento is less than an hour’s easy drive from Brindisi airport, on good, quiet roads, and is well served by the airlines.

Our house is located on the corner of a quiet street so it is extremely quiet and yet it is on the edge of the historic centre with all the convenience of the nearby shops, bars, cafes and restaurants, and the beach is just a few minutes drive away. We value the high ceilings and the spacious rooms which keep the house cool in the summer: in the restoration we have retained a lot of the original features. While we can walk out of the front door and into a bar or restaurant it is just as easy to pick up something at the local shops and prepare something at home for al fresco dining on the roof terrace. Guests will be welcomed with fresh flowers and a free bottle of bubbly on arrival.
