Vacation Rental Description
With restoration completed in April 2009, Trullo Bellissimo, a bijou experience, is ready to welcome you to its unique blend of luxury and ethnic charm. Set in her own 1 acre olive grove, surrounded by fig, almond, pomegranate, pear and quince, in the countryside outside Ostuni,Trullo Bellissimo sits alone, in total privacy offering you peace and comfort.

The property, with two double bedrooms (one with a 4-poster bed) and each with it's own en-suite bathroom will comfortably accommodate 4 people. Two daybeds offer additional flexibility, if required.

Most furniture and fittings have been privately commissioned, from the Sicilian tiles baked from the volcanic rock of Mount Etna in the kitchen, to Iranian marble on the floors and bathroom walls, and locally commissioned ironwork for the bedroom and living areas. Soft furnishings include beadwork, and crochet (bedspreads and curtains crocheted by Moira), Indian wall hangings, plus quality glassware and china.

This integrated building with 300 year origins, was designed to stay cool in summer with thick stone walls and conical/vaulted ceilings. The three original buildings are joined internally, but have doors to both the front and rear terraces. Both bedrooms have ceiling fans for additional comfort. Soft furnishings have been designed to add a splash of colour and an ethnic feel to the natural stone canvas provided by the walls and marble tiled floors. The external amenities include a sun terrace with seating for those ‘sundowner’ moments looking over olive groves to Cisternino, where the sun sets in a blaze of glory. Also, there is a lower terrace with a large marble dining table and outdoor kitchen with barbeque. Both terraces are linked by your own 10m x 5m private swimming pool with sun loungers and rustic shower. A selection of fruit trees and herbs, are there for the picking. There is a separate building adjoining the villa, that offers a washing machine and ironing facilities.

Trullo Bellissimo offers the ideal location to explore and enjoy the culture, food and people of Puglia.Only 8km from Ostuni, Cisternino 15km,Locorotondo 23km,Ceglie Messapica 9km, Martina Franca 22km,and the beaches a mere 18km.

Other Places of interest include;

Alberobello 30km, a designated UNESCO world heritage site, with its beautiful coned trulli houses and their white-washed walls. Excellent restaurants, traditional bars and a trulli museum, all make for a worthwhile excursion.

Polignano a Mare 51km, is an enchanting seaside destination, with an ancient town built on a spur of rock directly above a magnificent, clear blue sea.

Gallipoli 117km, of ancient origin, grew from a small village, which developed around the commercial activity of the port due to its strategic position. Its historic centre is still perfectly intact, including the 16th century castle which acts as a gateway to the city.

Matera 100km, a World Heritage Site located in Italy's Basilicata region, was the subject of Carlo Levi's "Christ Stopped at Eboli" as well as being the backdrop for Mel Gibson's "Passion of the Christ". The incredible festival called "Festa della Madonna Bruna" in early June should not be missed. Matera is a unique example of a cultural tradition and civilization which stretches back to the Neolithic age. The old city was created out of a rocky ravine. The numerous natural caves in Matera were the first houses of the Neolithic inhabitants of the region, who transformed the natural landscape into new forms of architecture

Reached by direct flights from the U.K. as well as connecting flights via Rome or Milan, Trullo Bellissimo is only 40 minutes and 1 hour respectively from Brindisi and Bari airports. Car hire (a car is essential) available either through the airline or owner's websites.

My wife (Linda) and myself had a wonderful time at Trullo Bellissimo ,we anticipated the weather would be changeable and it was,the welcome pack was outstanding the location truly great,so quiet and peaceful.
Jane was very attentive and is a great asset to the owners and the other guest "Valentino the Ginger Cat" nearly came home with us!
We had fantastic visits to the towns guided by my Moira Brown's historical dialogue in the visitor manual which is outstanding!
The local restaurants were great the house was equipped by the owners with a great deal of thought and we loved it
I would say if you don't go you will miss out on a wonderful experience

    The perfect Puglian experience

Review Submitted: July 19, 2010 Date of Stay: June 2010

We have just returned from a wonderful week at Trullo Bellissimo (June 2010). We fell in love with the pictures of Trullo Bellissimo on its website, and were thrilled to find that, in person, it is just as beautiful. It provides very thoughtful, comfortable accommodation (perfect for two couples, as we were). We loved the moroccan themed decor, the well equipped kitchen and the gorgeous outdoor areas. The location was also perfect - close enough to some great towns and shops, and yet remote enough that we could really relax. However, more than anything it is the little, thoughtful touches that really make Trullo Bellissimo (everything from the herb garden, to the welcome bottle of wine, olive oil and other basic provisions) and elevate it from just another luxury villa to something really special. We will definitely return for one of our next Italian holidays!

If romance, privacy and relaxation are your thing, this is the place. Throughout our holiday experience was exceptional. There were no limits to the owners' generosity and thoughtfulness in ensuring that our requirements and expectations were exceeded in every regard. The locally based support team (Ali and Jane) should also be commended for doing all they can to make us feel welcome and ensure our stay was of the highest possible standard.

Set down a country track in a rural area outside Ostuni TB is extremely peaceful with no passing trade to detract from the atmosphere. The only problem we had was trying to pull ourselves away from the pool / outside area to explore Ostuni and the surrounding area.

Internally TB is well appointed and exceptionally clean throughout. The bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms are very nicely decorated creating a homely and comfortable environment akin to any boutique hotel (without the medalling concierge). We stayed in the four poster room and found the bed extremely comfortable. There is also plenty of storage and cupboard space. With the addition of the Arabic Room and the other lounge / sitting areas you cannot fail to the perfect spot to unwind.

The kitchen area was very clean and had everything required to support the main gastronomic production area (the BBQ terrace outside) If the weather allows you'll no doubt find that you do most of your cooking out here sipping your favourite tipple as the sun sets in the distance. Being able to use any of the provisions in the cupboards and fridge/freezer really makes you feel at home. We also helped ourselves to a few strawberries from the garden which were delicious and again creates the feeling that the place is yours (if only for 1 week alas).

Car hire is essential for the recommended visit to Ostuni old town and Cisternino. We suggest sticking to the 'Centro Storico' in Ostuni. To our mind Cisternino is more the atypical sleepy, Puglian hill town. Bar Fod is a good spot for breakfast (the pastries are made by the owners mum!) There is a great English speaking taxi service provided by Angelo/Romeo (details in the guest book) if you want to enjoy a drink. There are plenty of great restaurants in both towns but recommend Il Frantoio in Ostuni oldtown for an authentic experience.

We avoided the natives' beaches and would recommend Torre Guaceto if you want to find that quiet, white sandy beach with turquoise sea.

A great place we can't wait to return to soon.

We were very pleased indeed with the property. The external space is particularly well appointed with great landscaping, and the views across the olive groves are memorable.
The quality of the interior, including the kitchen/bathrooms is very high, and the re-furb has been done in very good taste.

    Truly Fabulous

    Chablis-UK

Well - the picture is not only a true likeness, but underestimates the beauty and tranquility that you find at Trulo Bellisimo. We had a wonderful two weeks in late August, where the festivals in Ostuni and sorties out to the hill towns and beaches enhanced the break.

What cannot be underestimated is the fantastic trulo that this is - it is fabulously appointed and well located to take advantage of the great weather and region, including a well stocked garden (Tomatoes, Figs, Strawberries, Cocombre, Aubergine etc). We would recomend this to any discerning holiday maker, who are looking for a break for any occasion.

    Wonderful week in Puglia

    Patrice-Leicester, England

We stayed at this fabulous trullo for a week in July/early Aug & had an absolutely fantastic holiday. The property lived up to our expectations from the photos we had viewed online.
We were shown around the property upon arrival & welcomed with freshly baked bread, local wine & home made fig jam & aubergine relish & sweets for the kids (amongst other goodies). The trullo was extremely well equipped & furnished in a unique style. The time & love that the owners have put into renovating & equipping the trullo is evident everywhere. The gardens are beautiful & there are several areas to relax, sit or eat in. The swimming pool was well used during our week. To be honest you could quite easily spend your entire holiday relaxing in the beautiful surroundings & not leave the trullo. However should you venture out, there are numerous places to visit on your doorstep, whatever your preferences are for spending your time. Only a few miles away is the stunning city of Ostuni - easy to drive to & easy to get around & explore on foot. In the other direction is the town of Cisternino - (our families favourite). There are numerous good restaurants here where you can eat very well & very reasonably. A great place to have a morning cappuccino & pastry & watch the world go by. There are many local markets to wander around & many beaches to choose from. This is our families favourite part of Italy, the people here are genuinely friendly & welcoming. We would not hesitate to recommend this trullo to anyone who wants to stay in a unique & five star environment.

    Jewel to discover in Puglia

Ideal place for Italy lovers used to visit Toscany and Umbria to discover the South of Italy. It is really the place to discover this authentic and beautiful area. The fantastic weather and the rich soil together with the nearby sea delivers the perfect ingredients for a glorious diner in this lovely trulli. What does one need more than a fresh fish on the barbecue seasoned with herbs from the garden together with some vegetables from the local market and a good bottle of excellent yet undiscovered wine. Moira and Keith did everything to make your stay unforgettable and make your children dream of having their honeymoon one day in this fantastic setting.

    Perfect in every way

We have just returned from weeks holiday and I can honestly say this was the best holiday accommodation we have ever stayed in; it was perfect in every way. The area was full of interesting places to visit and I would really recommend two weeks in order to take full advantage of both the facilities at the villa and the numerous sights within driving distance.
The regular visits made by the local ginger cat were a lovely bonus!

    Top quality holiday spot:

Two blazing sunny weeks - great area for wining and dining, fascinating hill towns, especially Matera - Ostuni is lovely, lively and friendly - Osteria del Tempo Perso (cave restaurant) is a must! Trullo Bellissimo lives up to its name - situated in quiet and pretty surroundings, but only l0 mins drive max to Ostuni. The villa is beautifully furnished and comfortable, and the outside areas are a pleasure to relax in. The pool was spacious and much used during this time. We shall be returning in the future.

    rental property

    Owners Profile
Luxury bijou villa, private pool, terraces, olive grove, close to sea.

The owners of Trullo Bellissimo are Keith and Moira who live in Somerset, England. Having travelled to the north of Italy and Rome for many years, Moira read ‘Christ Stopped at Eboli’ by the great physician, painter, parliamentarian and novelist, Carlo Levi, which detailed in such heart-rending prose his internal exile in the south, during the early years of Mussolini, the poverty and humanity of its people. So Moira said, we must go south – I want to meet these people. And so we did. The rest is the history of Trullo Bellissimo. Much has changed, except of course the people!

Having purchased the property in November 2006, renovation was completed in April 2009. We welcomed our first quests in June 2009 and, in our first year, we were completely booked through to the end of October! 2010 and 2011 have proven equally as popular

We have advised quests on flights, hire cars and helped to arrange special dinners, sailing, diving and so on.

We have had fabulous on-line reviews from our quests with special mention to the use of colour in the interior design and the fabulous exterior dining/cocktail terraces and swimming pool.

There is a 60 page Quest book in the villa with all the information that one could require, including restaurant recommendations, historical sights, beaches, local shops, supermarkets, hospitals etc etc.

Set in her own olive grove, with stunning terraces, gardens and swimming pool, Trullo Bellissimo offers the ideal location to explore and enjoy the culture, food and people of Puglia.
