The apartment at Derry Cottage is located in one of the most beautiful unspoilt parts of southern Ireland, the Blackwater River Valley - local people even have the cheek to call the region the Irish Riviera! Derry Cottage is a traditional Irish cottage - purchased as a ruin by your hosts, Anthony Summers & Robbyn Swan. Tony and Robbyn are authors and use the front part of Derry Cottage for their writing work. The apartment - with it's own private entrance and parking area - is located at the back of the cottage. There is also a riverside garden (with the view pictured at the top of this ad) for your private use.

The apartment has a large combined living-room and kitchen, a double bedroom with en suite shower, washbasin and WC, and a conservatory ideal for breakfast on sunny mornings. The living-room is large enough to accomodate a baby in a cot or a small child. The apartment is located in the back of Derry Cottage, on the bank of the River Blackwater. The apartment comprises 1 bedroom with en-suite facilities. The living room could accomodate a baby cot or bed for a child. This gives room for up to 3 people. Bed linen and towels are provided for your use. Central heating keeps you snug and warm. The music system will play cds, and radio. There is a DVD but no ordinary television. To prepare food you will find a cooker, an oven, a microwave, a fridge, a freezer, a kettle, a toaster. The owner has also provided cutlery, crockery, glassware, cooking utensils.Smoking :This is a non-smoking apartment. One well-behaved pet is welcome - we have two Labradors and two cats at our home next door.

Local amenities include walking, hiking, bird watching, fly fishing, deep sea fishing, swimming, and canoeing. Wonderful beaches and coves are 20 minutes by car. Local sights include Lismore Castle (Irish seat of the Duke of Devonshire), Waterford Crystal, Ardmore and its Viking Tower and famine graveyard. Lots more of historic interest within an hours drive. We're 4 hours from Dublin, 1 hour each from cities of Cork and Waterford.

The balance of the cost of your stay must be received by us not less than 30 days prior to departure (or at the time of the booking if this date has passed). If you have not paid on time and in full we reserve the right to treat your booking as cancelled by you. If a deposit has been paid, it will be non-refundable. The Derry Cottage, on the banks of the River Blackwater, is perfect for anyone who wants a quiet place, with comfortable bed and chairs, a warm solarium, wi-fi, room to spread out, gorgeous views, easy access to the whole of southern Ireland, the ability to save money by cooking for yourself (but really nice places to eat out if you wish), the best bakery in Ireland nearby, friendly hosts, and at a great price. Tony, our host, said that if you look in either direction on the river, what you see is exactly what you would have seen in 1850. Practically nothing has changed. All you see are the castle, the tower, the river, a forest, and farm fields. Maybe one car per day goes by, and we take an hour long walk every day without being passed by a car. When I was online looking for a place to stay in Ireland, what was attractive about this place was its price (one of the absolute best in Ireland), its location, and the comfortableness of the place. It’s absolutely great for one person or for two. So if you are looking for a place to relax, to write, to read, to hike or to meditate, PLUS to see lots of Ireland within a couple of hours’ drive, you should consider Derry Cottage. We will be back!
