Hi
My name is Paula and together with my husband Conor, we run Decoy Country Cottages. We are both dentists and after meeting and working in the UK for 10 years, Conor could not resist the draw of his native land any longer and a move back to Ireland happened in 1998. When we returned to Ireland, we were fortunate to be able to buy and old farm house and stable mews. Both were in need of renovation but with three small children the house was the priority.
In 2005 we received planning permission to renovate the stable mews in to eight cottages ranging in size from 1 - 4 bedrooms. The work was carried out in 2006/2007 and in June 2007 we were ready to open. During the renovation we were able to incorporate as many environmentally friendly features as we could including geothermal heating and hot water, extremely high insulation, low energy lighting and our own well and water treatment plant.
We have a beautiful location surrounded by beautiful countryside and are only minutes from the most important heritage sites in the county and country. We are also only 30 minutes from Dublin.
My favourite restaurant in the area is O'Brien's in Johnstown and you just could not stay in the area and not visit Mrs O'Connells pub on the hill of Skreen. Mrs O'Connell still runs the pub at the age of ninety or so and is a real character. The pub has featured in numerous ads and has been written about in the papers many times.
The Newgrange complex of burial mounds will blow your mind. I have been to the pyramids and for me, Newgrange is far better.
We hope you enjoy your stay with us.
Conor and Paula
