Vacation Rental Description
Doherty Farm Holiday Homes are situated on Island Roy which is situated between the villages of Downings and Carrigart in County Donegal. We are only minutes from Rosapenna 18 hole golf course and the new Sandy Hills Golf Course. The island is joined to the mainland via a causeway and is within walking distance of the villages of Carrigart and Downings each 2.5kilometres from the houses. Our island is part of hidden Ulster and better still hidden Ireland. We are recorded very little on most of the maps for the Rosguill area and are on very few maps for Donegal.
Island Roy
Island Roy the name that the island is known today as has had many different names recorded in Donegal History all relating to the island. They are as follows: Edenbray, Elendebray, Illandeory, Island Roy, Island Wray, and as is is officially registered with the Irish Ordinance Survey Office, Oileán an bhráighe, which when translated is Prisoner's Island which according to local history links the Island with Doe Castle and the Clan Mac Sweeney.
We are nested quietly in the beautiful Mulroy Bay and protected by Gainne Mhor the Fanad Mountains , Figart Hill, with Muckish Mountain in the distance. We have one lake on the Island called Loch Moss, but sadly no fish, although we do have wild duck nesting and hatching their broods there. Our shores are noted for Whelks, Scallop and Urchin. Two causeways link our Island to the mainland, one to Carrickaholan Isle and the other from Carrickaholan to Island Roy. The causeways were built between the years of 1927 and 1929.
Activities in the local area
Our cottages are situated close to Rosapenna and the new Sandy Hills, which offers the best in Irish Golf. The Rosguill peninsula offers breathtaking beauty and majesty. With miles of long sandy beaches and clear unpolluted waters. There is plenty for everyone to do from golf to water sport, horse riding, cycling and hill walking.
Close by is Glenveigh National Park, Ards Forest Park, The Historic Doe Castle and Mount Errigal, Donegal's highest mountain. Carrigart is a typical "period" village with interesting Victorian architecture while Downings is a major water sport and sea fishing centre.
Kitchen
The main living area of the holiday home features a large open fireplace and fully fitted kitchen. To the left of this area you will find a spacious conservatory which has superb views over Mulroy Bay... in fact, the waters edge is only a few metres from the front door and a recently built slipway makes launching a small cruiser or dinghy an easy task.

The cottage has a spacious interior. The dining table is sited adjacent to the large picture window to take full advantage of the stunning sea views. For you and your childrens entertainment a tv and video are provided.
Bedrooms
The cottage has 3 bedroom to sleep up to 7 people. Two of the bedrooms are to the front of the house and have wonderful sea views. All bed linen is supplied and is included in the cottage rental price.
