Bantry, in the heart of West Cork, is set in surroundings that consist of rich vegetation, palm trees and semi-tropical flowers. Amongst this breathtaking mountain scenery, you can find evidence of the area’s past, in the shape of megalithic monuments and the ruins of monastic settlements. The climate is very mild and the Gulf Stream has an obvious effect on the area, allowing the growth of semi-tropical vegetation and foliage, which can be seen in the many gardens throughout the region. There are a number of touring routes along which you can enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the coast, spectacular roads that wind through the mountains, cliff face roadways, and staggering views of mountain lakes, waterfalls, prehistoric monuments, ancient castles and Christian settlements, forts and stately homes with thriving gardens.
