Vacation Rental Description
The apartment is on the 2nd floor with access by lift, and located in Nador Street, in the prestigious, central area of District 5. It has a quiet courtyard location. It has been completely renovated, and is furnished and equipped to an excellent standard. The rooms have beautiful oak floors and magnificent, high ceilings with period lights. Original pictures and limited edition prints decorate the walls. There are several dozens of restaurants close by, from inexpensive all the way to first class international cuisine. In fact you are only two minutes away from some of the best and most popular restaurants in Budapest. All forms of public transport -metro, tram and bus are also in the immediate area. The Danube and the beautiful Chain Bridge are a 2 minute walk, and Vaci Street and the new Fashion Street by The Kempinski Hotel are only 10 mins away-the great location of the apartment lets you visit all the top attractions in Budapest on foot.

About the owner: Myself (Bridgett Gill) and my partner (Brendan Wheatley) are in our late fifties and involved in the world of opera. We run Swansea City Opera, a mid scale opera company which tours all over the UK, and also Opera Box, well known for its smaller shows and outdoor performances of opera. Both are registered charities. The history, culture and love of music of the Hungarian people were a great influencing factor in our decision to buy a classical apartment in Budapest. We were looking for an investment for our retirement and had planned to visit three countries before making our choice, but after seeing the beauty of Budapest and finding the Hungarian people so friendly and welcoming, we decided to look no further. We hope you love the city us much as we do!

Unique benefits of the property : We took our time over renovating our apartment because we wanted to preserve the old Hungarian character whilst having all the advantages of modern living. We explored the fascinating antique come flea market on the outskirts of Budapest, called Ecseri, where we found our original light fittings and door handles, and visited many auction houses to buy original pictures and furniture that we then restored. When we bought our apartment in 2007 the courtyard and grand, classically arched interior of the house were still in a rather dilapidated state, but I am writing this in April 2010 and the courtyard is now completely restored and redecorated. It looks fantastic and I know I shouldn't, but I feel very proud!

Why we chose this location: Because we live in a very old cottage in Wales and love historic houses, we were looking for a building and apartment that had history and original features. We think we have found the perfect apartment and have completely renovated and restored it with a lot of love and thought. As well as being in a beautiful building, designed by Budapest's second most famous architect -Joseph Hild, the apartment is close to all forms of public transport, and central to all the tourist attractions and the Opera House. In addition, because we love good food and wine, we chose a location with good restaurants close by! By the way I can heartily recommend Hungarian wine, not a lot of it is sold abroad as they keep most of it for themselves!

  • Nearest Airport : Ferihegy at 12 kilometers distance;
  • Nearest Train Station : Central Budapest at 1 kilometers distance
  • Travel Info: Nearest Motorway : M1 and M7 at 5 Kilometres Car: not necessary The apartment is in the perfect location, near the Basilica in the prestigious District 5. All the top tourist attractions are within an easy 10 min walking distance, including the Opera House, Parliament, National Art Museum, Castle District and the funicular railway, the Famous Chain Bridge and the Vaci Utca shopping street. It is also close to a supermarket and a covered market where you can by excellent fresh produce. It is also, very importantly, only 2 mins walk from some very good bars and restaurants; the Hungarians have some really excellent wine and food! The nearest metro station is 5 mins walk away, and bus and tram stops are 2 mins away. The apartment is also close to the street which houses all the prime antique shops specialising in Biedermeier and Art Deco furniture. Budapest is regaining its former glory, there is street after street of fabulous architecture, many buildings are fully renovated and many still have their rather shabby-chique charm.

"Just to let you know that we greatly enjoyed our stay in Budapest in your lovely apartment. The central position made it easy to explore the city. Geoff has now returned after his dental treatment, which went well. We hope to return to Budapest some day to see more of the sights. Many thanks for providing such a splendid base. The bottle of wine in the kitchen was much appreciated !"
With best wishes,
Annette

" Hello Bridgett, Just a note to say thanks - we had a lovely time staying in your apartment and exploring Budapest. We really enjoyed the apartment and thought the location was fabulous - wonderfully central with interesting places all around and far too many eateries to try. We managed to visit plenty of the sights, tried the spas and even went to the Opera House - Handel's Xerxes that was well sung but had a rather "strange" staging (think Play School on steroids!) Having Atilla to meet (and despatch) us was great too. So thanks again. "
Best Wishes
Hazel

“Hello Bridgett, I just wanted to add my thanks too for our wonderful stay - as Hazel said, the flat was in a great location, beautifully decorated and equipped, and the perfect base for exploring the gorgeous city of Budapest. We did so many things, and still wished we had had more time - there was just so much to see and do (and eat - a magnificent treat for a veggie traveller!). Her description of 'Xerxes', bye the way, describes it perfectly - definitely an unforgettable evening. Thank you so much, and many thanks to Atilla for helping to make our trip run so smoothly.
with very best wishes,"
Janet

Dear Bridgett
Just a line to say how much we all enjoyed our stay in your lovely appartment last week.
We really enjoyed our two visits to the opera house with Rigoletto just edging Norma as a production so thanks for the tip to book as early as we did. We also found a great place for dinner-have left the card at the flat for others to follow.
Your place is so central that even an oldie like me was able to walk everywhere but with so much to see and do we will need to pay another visit in the near future
Renewed thanks
Pam Cath Gerald & Dave

Just a word of thanks for the lovely weekend we spent in your beautiful apartment. It has been modernised so well and we were very comfortable. We loved the city and had perfect weather all the time apart from one light shower on Sunday when we were in one of the art galleries. I think we managed to see all the main sights and did a lot of walking! We took advantage of some of the restaurants you had suggested and they were excellent. It was a very traditional production of Figaro on Sunday, and it was lovely to see so many chldren there - quite a family event!
We really enjoyed ourselves and might contact you again for another trip we might make with some friends of ours.
Thank you again,
Sue

I just wanted to thank you for our stay in your lovely apartment in Budapest. You have done a wonderful job with your renovations. We had a fantastic holiday and as the apartment is so well situated we managed to get around to all the sites. We even managed a trip to Vienna on the train for the day. Attila was waiting for us when we arrived and he also very kindly arranged for a taxi to take us to the train station very early on Sunday morning. If you need a reference for your website I would be happy to oblige.
Once again many thanks.
Carole

Hi Bridgett
Sorry its taken so long to let you know we had a fabulous time in Budapest. I'm just back home from Cornwall and have finally got easy internet access.
The flat was delightful and I do hope we left it as you would hope to find it. You were right the Hungarians are lovely people ( cars kept stopping to let us cross the road! Unheard of in most European cities). Margaret Island was lovely and the children made good use of the swimming complex, while I sunbathed! We took in most of the sights and had some great meals out.
I think my husband and I will definitely consider a return visit before too long.
Thank you again for the wonderful service you provide, everything was thought of and there was plenty of useful information
Kind regards,
Paula

"We had a wonderful time in Budapest. The apartment exceeded our expectation and was very comfortable. The location could not be better and we were in easy reach of all the places we wanted to see. Attilla was waiting for us at the airport and gave us a very warm welcome and was a mine of information on Budapest and gave us his number in case we needed him.
The information in the apartment was most helpful and we had an excellent meal at the Strudel house. We managed to get a box at the opera house very reasonably. There was no opera at the time of our visit but we attended an international festival of ballet, which kept us spellbound throughout. A lot of the time was spent looking at the architecture - there was so much to see.
Thank you so much for getting in some bread and milk – it meant we could have a hot drink and a snack after our late flight. The local shops were very close and convenient. We ate out most of the time but had some light meals in. The tomatoes were some of the tastiest I have had for a long time.
I think we left everything as we found it. We turned down the heating and made sure the towel rails were off along with everything else. There were so many things we did not manage to fit into the time. We would like to return some time and hope the apartment will be available again when we do."
Regards,
Di
