Vacation Rental Description
|
|
Villa Primavera is a simple, traditional Greek house on the edge of the unspoiled village of Assomatos, about 300 metres above sea level. A short path beyond the ancient church leads to the front of the villa from where there is a stunning 120 degree view from west of Kalymnos to the Turkish coast north of Bodrum. All rooms have terracotta tiled floors and the 3 unconnected twin bedrooms have en-suite showers, large fitted wardrobes and wooden beamed ceilings.
Kos town, with its beautiful harbour, Crusader fortress, ancient ruins and many restaurants and bars, is a 20 minute drive. Tigaki, the nearest beach, which has a long expanse of white sand, is 12 minutes by car or scooter. There are other easily accessible sandy beaches along the northern shores with restaurants and sunbeds in abundance, particularly at Mastihari and Kos town. Kardamena to the south has a long stretch of sand and also offers paragliding, water-skiing and jet-skiing. Mpros Therma to the east of Kos Town has hot springs bubbling out of the pebbles.
Life for the locals around Assomatos has hardly changed for several generations. They can still be seen living with their goats, donkeys, turkeys and hens and the pervading sense of peace and tranquility makes this the perfect place for quiet relaxation. Indeed, the existence of this Greek idyll has been recognized by the authorities who have wisely imposed a preservation order on all buildings in the village.
There are many beautiful walks among the attractive trees and pine forests which adorn the nearby hills. Even the summit of Mount Dikeos can be attained quite easily by the more energetic. But only a 20 minute walk is needed to reach the popular village of Zia with its many shops selling local produce and gifts. There are at least 10 restaurants there too, one of which is famed for having entertained Bill Clinton in 2003.

Kos has a fascinating history as revealed by its many Greek and Roman ruins. These include the ruins of the Asklepion hospital (C3rd BC) where Hippocrates taught, the ancient fortress and walls of the old town, the antique temple and the Casa Romana with its beautiful mosaics. The pretty museum at the centre of Kos town contains a multitude of “troves of antiquity”. But whilst retaining much of its original character, the island’s capital has become a busy tourist centre with numerous restaurants, bars and nightclubs to suit every taste. A colourful variety of yachts and fishing boats are moored along the seafront beside the 15th century Castle of the Knights. Day trips can be taken to Pserimos and Kalymnos or to Bodrum for a rewarding visit to the Turkish market.
