The cuisine of the Peloponnese is fantastic, and dining in one of the famous tavernas or kafeneios will not only allow you to try authentic Greek food, based on freshly harvested olives, tomatoes and seafood, washed down with local wine, but you will also be made to feel party of the family.
You didn't think it was possible to have a Greek skiing holiday, the Peloponnese will prove you wrong. From The 4 Seasons you'll find you are half an hour away from the excellent conditions and facilities of the Kalavryta Ski Centre on Mount Helmos. However, winter sports are just a fraction of the outdoor activities on offerKalavrita: a historical and beautiful town of approx. 2,000 residents, situated at the base of the mythical Mount Helmos, 750m above sea level.
Kalavrita is bracketed by the two ancient monasteries of Mega Spileon and St Lavra and each has played a significant role in Greek history which you can explore through their intimate museums. Mega Spileon houses both a holy spring and its famous icon. The Museum of the Kalavryta Holocaust, housed in the local schoolhouse, is a powerful tribute to the memory of the 1436 men and boys slaughtered during WW11. It is a dignified, understated but evocative account of the struggle between the occupying forces and partisan fighters in the area.
Kalavrita’s thriving community provides a wonderful variety of shopping experiences, apart from locally produced souvenirs, wine and preserves. Stroll through the weekly market and pick your choice of delicious in-season fruit and vegetables also available from the local shops. Fresh fish is delivered twice weekly. If you prefer to eat out, choose from any one of the mouth watering variety of local cafes, bars and tavernas, and on weekends, enjoy the colourful entertainment provided in the village square
