The property consists of 2 self contained old stone buildings on the edge of a traditional Greek village with sea views in one direction and stunning mountain views the other. Airports: 3 hours from Athens airport, 90 minutes from Araxos and 45 minutes from Kalamata, but a world away. Both are stylishly renovated to keep the traditional warmth and appeal but adding all the modern luxury. You can rent both buildings together (10 people) or either building individually: The Stone House (6) and Papous' House (4). A 10 minute drive below the village are the many unspoilt beaches of Messinia including our favourite, Sani Beach, with a great taverna on the sand. The mountains lie just behind with ruins of Ancient Figalea, Temple of Vasses, the Neda Valley Gorge Trek and waterfalls. Both places provide ideal bases for beach holidays or for mountain walks or for just the sun. The Old Stone House has a wall running around the garden perimeter which includes olive and coconut trees and a covered pool (a small swimming pool 11m squared with two sun terraces). There are 5 terraces in all, including at least three dining areas, one covered for shade. Hooks are in place for hammocks to be hung near the pool or on one of the lower terraces near the mulberry tree. The whole house has been designed with safety gates for small children on all steps and stairs as well as on both routes to the pool. In addition the walled garden combines both privacy and security. The main room is exceptionally large and takes up most of the first floor - with glass replacing most of the sea facing wall to give views of Kefalonia and Zante as well as the village below. For those seeking summer sun there are infinite spots to lay back and for those seeking winter warmth the central heating and log fire will be a welcome return after the mountain walk.
There is a guest house, Papous' House, which sleeps 4. This very stylish studio conversion from an old stone building. All the charm and warmth of the old building has been kept with modern comfort, air conditioning and double fronted glass across the front wall to allow lovely views of the mountains around; this opens out onto a walled terrace with hammock, coconut tree and outside dining area. The locals call it 'The Villa' as appreciation of its new found glory. The main double bedroom lies on a mezzanine level reached via a hand made spiral staircase. The second bedroom has two bunk beds. The bathroom has a bath and washing machine. Walks literally start at the front door in all directions. The road does not go past this point so no cars will pass by as you sit on your terrace contemplating life. It becomes a track leading off to olive groves in one direction and the sea in the other. It is ideal for those seeking tranquillity and nature.
