Villa Mia is our luxury detached single-storey villa in the foothills of the White Mountains in Western Crete. Set on the edge of the traditional village of Gavalohori, the villa is newly built by a renowned Chania architect to our own specifications. Set in its own grounds and overlooking forests, mountains, olive groves and the sea, all year round the villa offers everything that would be needed for the perfect holiday for families and small parties of all ages - from honeymoon to retirement.

Mia' in Greek means feminine 'one', which we feel sums up this unique property. There is only one Villa Mia.

Near enough to easily walk to shops, tavernas and stunning antiquities, the Villa offers a private 10m x 4m swimming pool with children's area, shady terraces, paved sun bathing area and roof terrace with stunning views for al fresco dining, so that you won't even need to leave the gated grounds to make your holiday one of peace, relaxation and solitude.

Having two children of our own, we have deliberately designed the villa to be family friendly, and equipped likewise. A giant chess set allows shady games on the covered terrace alongside the pool. A separate childrens' area of the pool protects young children from drifting into the deeper end, although parents must be aware it is their responsibility to ensure proper supervision of younger and non-swimmers at all times. The main pool comprises two sections - one level area at 1.3 m deep in which to play ball games without risk of slipping down a slope into deeper water, and the other at 1.5m for swimming proper. We have kept the whole pool relatively shallow to ensure it quickly heats up and remains warm throughout the summer months.

ther child friendly considerations incorporated in the villa are :

* Bunk beds with under-trundle bed for families of 3 children or more
* Ample plastic and melamine cups, plates and bowls
* Exterior bathroom so youngsters with wet feet do not need to come into the main house for the toilet, avoiding the risk of slipping
* Easy clean tiled floors
* Mattress protectors on all mattresses, with set of PVC waterproof sheets available for extra security if required

Please be aware however that the swimming pool is on close proximity to the accommodation and so may not be suitable for toddlers or very young children, and certainly not without adult supervision.

For our older guests, or those with mobility problems, we have provided accommodation all on one level. There is one very small step from car park to main patio area, and steps of course to the roof terrace. Other than this, all rooms can be reached via flat level access. The easy access shower in the ensuite bathroom, at a width of 1.5m, enables a less able person to be assisted to wash, and there is deliberately no glass side panel to this shower for this purpose.

We can also offer you a Welcome pack of essential food items to be at the house to greet you on arrival. The pack costs EUR20.00 and starts you off with fresh bread, milk, butter, a cold beer, and everything you need for your first snack on arrival without going to the shops.

The villa is built on a large plot of land of 1200 sq metres. The iron gate rolls back to reveal a short driveway into car park with ample parking for 2/3 cars.

Just 7 minutes walk from the nearest taverna, as well as the bakery, shops and cafes. Villa Mia is quietly located above the ancient village of Gavalohori, but within easy each of all its facilties. If you have a car (and we recommend a good local car hire company) then the nearest blue-flag beach at Almirida is just 7 minutes drive away. Near enough to be conventient, but far enoug away to give you peace and quiet.

Above are prices for villa hire and do not include flights or transportation to/from the airport. Please note these prices are for the entire villa per week, not per person. Prices are quoted in £ Pounds Sterling. Euro rates on request.

Occupation of the property is from 4pm on the first day booked to 10am on the day of departure, to allow for cleaning

Payment should be made as follows – a 20% non-refundable deposit of the weekly rate is due at time of booking with the remaining 80% due in full 8 weeks before departure. If booking within 8 weeks of departure, full payment is due immediately. Payment can be made in pounds sterling by cheque drawn on a UK bank, or by BACS deposit in Sterling or Euros to our bank in Greece. Account details will be supplied on request.
