Vacation Rental Description
Set in the heart of a traditional Greek village beside a leafy park with a picturesque river and surrounded by orange groves. It is secluded yet close to (50m) a selection of excellent tavernas and small shops with very friendly local people. It is the ideal location for relaxing or for exploring the island.
Nerine is a ground floor apartment of only 4 fully air conditioned apartments and 4 houses on this almost unique setting within Fodele village. It has a double bedroom with french doors that lead to the rear courtyard garden with views to the village church and hills. The apartment is furnished to a high standard to include everything you need from a corkscrew to a tumbler for your toothbrush!
There is also a large communal floodlit swimming pool and Jaccuzi for you to enjoy with ample secluded pool side leisure areas which are well furnished with loungers, tables, parasols and chairs. Mandarin Grove benefits from having English Service Managers (Helen and Ken) on site who are very knowledgeable about the area and are willing to help you enjoy a really good holiday. They offer our guests a wide range of services that include airport transfers and lifts to the beach. (Full details of their services can be supplied by request.)
The coast and Fodele's attractive sandy beach is only 3 kms distance, or for the more active guests there are lots of enjoyable walks into the countryside or scuba diving in the nearby resort of Agia Pegalia if relaxing by the pool is not for you. The local shops and tavernas are only short picturesque walk either through the nature park crossing the stream or following the path alongside the stream to the village centre.
With good local tavernas, glorious scenery and small but delightful resorts closeby Mandarin Grove is perfect for those wishing to combine a relaxing/active holiday.
Crete is the largest of the greek islands and is the most southerly point in Europe. It has a wonderful climate with long hot summers and short, mild (though unpredictable!) winters. It is awash with fascinating history dating back to Minoan times. The famous Knossos Palace, said to be one of the most important archaeological sites in the world, is sited close by in Heraklion where there are several excellent museums to visit. Crete can lay claim to the birthplace of Zeus, and Fodele, (on a slightly more mortal plane!) to the birthplace of El Greco.
For a slice of more recent history, visit the old hippie colony of Matala with its beautiful beach and ancient caves where the hippies used to camp out! There are so many places of interest here that people come back year after year. For more earthly pleasures, we have golf (a PGA course 35km away), watersports (diving, windsurfing, waterskiing, banana boats etc.) and boat trips from our local beach, an aquarium, two waterparks, many fabulous beaches, great tavernas with excellent food, and plenty of shopping opportunities!
For keen walkers or birdwatchers, Crete is hard to beat. --Or of course, you could just chill out!
In Fodele you will experience the truly Cretan way of life as it is still very much an agricultural village with it's olive and orange groves, sheep, goats, vines and vegetable plots (and the occasional donkey!). It is like stepping back in time but, thankfully, with modern conveniences! You will be offered oranges, locally made wine and rachi wherever you go--the locals do not like you to refuse! As the birthplace of El Greco we have a small museum located in his house and several commemorative statues around the village.
