Vacation Rental Description
Our home was originally the mill owners house and made up part of the domain of the Château. There has been a water mill on the site since the 13th century. The current mill was built around 1860 by the Comte de Vallois.
The guest house, which used to be the “maison du gardien” or caretakers cottages adjoins our home, but is completely independent.
Rosay sur Lieure is situated just 5 km from the historic village of Lyons la Forêt, on the edge of one of France’s largest beech forests. The area has a rich history which can be traced back to roman times.
The village of Rosay has a population of about 500. The Château de Rosay, which was built in 1611 is a grade 2 listed building and the whole valley is now a classified area. Most of the village is now up on the hill, since the local Lord of the Manor decided to have all the houses moved at the start of the 18th century to allow him an unspoilt view of the church.
