Vacation Rental Description
Aix en Provence is the quintessential Provencal town, the heart of which is the recently-renovated main avenue, the Cours Mirabeau. This residential building is located right on this famous tree-lined avenue in a new residental complex finished in the year 2000, complete with a full-time "gardien" on the premises and digicode entry from the street. The unit is nestled within this beautiful complex, located on the tiny street behind and parallel to the Cours. You're guaranteed quiet and privacy and a great night's sleep.

This charming terrace apartment boasts a small private patio with garden enclosure and outdoor table, a private entrance, two bedrooms (sleeps four total), a living room/dining area, an elegant modern kitchen, a full bathroom with tub and separate toilet. Despite the central location, you'll be surprised and delighted by the quiet, since the actual unit is located on the street behind (and parallel to) to the Cours Mirabeau. Fully air-conditioned in summer and heated in winter, well equipped with all modern conveniences (microwave, washing machine, dishwasher, TV/VCR/stereo, hair dryer, iron, free wifi connection, etc) complete with Provençal colors and plush bed linens, you'll feel very much at home. Its location is perfect to walk to all the boutiques and restaurants, discover the old town, and shop at the open-air markets. And if you want to explore the nearby stunning countryside, a designated space in the garage facilitates the parking of a car.

The Cours Mirabeau, the main axis of the town and its focal point, is filled with shops, boutiques, and commerce of all sorts, particularly cafés and restaurants. The Aixois like nothing better in the afternoons than to “flâner” (stroll) up and down the Cours, have a drink at a café and chat with their friends. The nearby rue d’Italie is filled with shops and boutiques of all kinds, so convenient for shopping for the apartment. Even the Monoprix supermarket is around the corner and you can bring the rolling cart with you to put your groceries in like everyone else in the neighborhood. You can walk to the marchés every day in Aix, as there is at least one a day and on some days two; there is no shortage of marvelous Provençal vegetables, flowers, and specialty products.

Aix is renowned for its music and lyric arts festival in June-July every year, and in August the nearby town of La Roque d’Antéron hosts an internationally acclaimed piano festival. During the year one can take any number of French classes for foreigners, many located within a short walk of the apartment. You'll have a wonderful sojourn, however long or short, in this well-appointed apartment; it's designed to make you feel quite comfortable. We'll be happy to furnish letters from satisfied guests who have offered to serve as references.

Dear Valerie,

We thought you might want to know about our experiences renting your apartment in Aix-en-Provence this winter, as this was our third time chez vous and we intend to return next winter. Before finding your apartment, we had rented many times before in extended-stay hotels (Pierre & Vacances, Citadines, etc) with small kitchenettes. When we walked into a room into one of those hotels, it looked and felt like a hotel. When we walked into your apartment, it looked and felt like a home.

We like the roomy size of the place. Two bedrooms, a bathroom with a shower and full-sized tub, a kitchen, and a large room that is both a living room and a dining room make for a comfortable living space. The furniture in this last room is very comfortable for reading, watching TV, chatting, etc. We are thankful for the plentiful supply of linens and towels for the bedrooms, bathroom, and kitchen.

We love to the go to the market and buy fresh products there, so we get a lot of use out of the kitchen with its numerous pots, pans, dishes, glasses, and utensils. The convenience of the dishwasher was appreciated…we only needed to run it every couple of days because of the large quantity of dishes you have.

And we’re thankful for the clothes washer, which enables us to bring fewer clothes in our suitcases – thus allowing us to travel more lightly to France. Having the clothes washer in the apartment means we can wash the clothes any time of the day, a significant advantage over the extended stay places we’ve rented, where the washing machines are shared and only available at certain times of the day.

We especially like the apartment’s location off a courtyard, which makes the area very safe and secure. We were surprised (and pleased!) with the quiet – virtually no street noise is heard from inside the apartment. The people in this apartment complex also seem to be considerate of others and are themselves quiet as they come and go from their apartments. And yet the apartment complex, on the main street of the city, is very close to everything in Aix. Museums, restaurants, shops, and markets are within easy walking distance of the apartment. Likewise, both the train and the bus stations are within walking distance. We never felt we needed the added expense of renting a car.

Because the apartment is well-stocked with maps, books, and pamphlets about places to visit in France, we could make plans to visit other cities with the information in the apartment. There is also that handy box filled with information about the restaurants and museums in Aix. The Tourist Office in Aix offers a lot of day trips to surrounding areas, many of which we took and enjoyed.

We are looking forward to our next visit. We are so pleased to have found your place and made the change from hotel to home.

Regards,

Tom and Carol M. (Rochester, NY, USA)

Hi Valerie,
Thank you so much for sharing your amazing apartment with us. We absolutely loved it. I just couldn't believe it when we arrived! We had a wonderful time and actually wish we were still there. The town is a magical place and the apartment was sooo convenient; I couldn’t believe how we could just walk out the front door and be in the center of town, yet the apartment itself was incredibly quiet. I have not returned they key yet, as the whole family is home sick and it has slowed me down a bit. I apologize! It was so kind of you to arrange for the crib. I left a little extra with the tip as a thank you to your friend who loaned it to us. It made a big difference! We did our best to leave things clean and tidy, replenish supplies, and to be good guests. We feel so lucky to have been able to spend some time in Aix and appreciate the way you made it happen for us last minute. We were praising you on Thanksgiving for making it happen for us. I hope you are well and enjoying the holiday season.

Hello Valerie.

The four of us are now back from our travels and I placed the key to your apartment in Aix in the mail to you yesterday.

We very much enjoyed our travels in Spain and France and found your apartment a wonderful way to visit Aix and Provence in general. The apartment is located perfectly in Aix. We spent two full days in Aix, visiting the markets, taking the “petit train”, visiting the Granet Museum, and just generally enjoying the city, cafes, boulangeries and patisseries, etc. We had our breakfasts and often our evening meal (baguettes, cheese, fruit and wine) on your wonderful patio.

The apartment was also a great location from which to take day trips out into other areas of Provence. During our stay we visited Cassis, Saint-Remy-de-Provence, Les Baux-de-Provence, Avignon, Pont du Gard, Apt, Rousillon, Gordes, Bonneaux, Menerbes, Oppede-le-Vieux --- a good mix of cities, sea ports as well as small Provence villages. Thank you again for your advice and review of our preliminary itinerary. With the exception of Arles (which we gave up in favor of spending another full day in Aix) we covered all the points of interest on our revised plan and enjoyed them all.

We dead headed the petunias, watered the plants while we were there and left your apartment in good order. Thank you for offering it for our enjoyment. The four of us fit very comfortably in there, once we mastered the schedule for showering!

Our friends are now off to London, Ireland and a cruise in the Baltic which includes a visit to St Petersburg. Meanwhile, Delores and I are in Cape May, NJ at our daughter’s summer home until we depart in early August for Israel and Egypt.

Best regards,
Bob S. (Florida, USA)

Hi Valerie,

We're packing up and getting ready for our departure tomorrow morning. The four of us have had an absolutely wonderful time here and your apartment is perfect. I've enjoyed your terrace/garden very much, and I've learned to get up early every morning (while it's still cool) and have breakfast outside. Also a good time to visit the wonderful local markets and the boulangerie. We're usually gone by later afternoon - there's so much to do and see, both here and in the surrounding area (the festival at Avignon was so much fun!). I make dinner around 8 or 9 when we get back, then it's more reading or a game of cards, and then off to bed. The days have gone by much too quickly!
All your instructions for the appliances, the cookbooks, the guest book and the box of pamphlets and maps helped us to quickly adapt to the apartment and feel like we lived here. Your neighbors are quiet and polite. We all loved your beds and got a terrific night’s sleep each night. The washing machine and dishwasher were great boons to our existence; we found all the linens we needed in your generously stocked linen closet in the living room. Having the internet and the free calling to check on my parents back home in Canada were very convenient.

We’re hoping that we'll be able to come back for another vacation here one day!

Bonjour la France! Cours Mirabeau, Heart of Town

A passionate francophile ever since I took French in high school, I have lived and traveled all over France for the past 30 years. Aix en Provence is one of my favorite spots--a big small town with loads to see and do, wonderful food, charming people, and gorgeous countryside. I've taken care to provide all the fixins' in my apartment so that my guests can thoroughly relax and enjoy themselves while they are chez moi. I spend as much time here as I can each year and continually renew, refurbish, and renovate so that the apartment stays fresh and inviting.
