Vacation Rental Description
In the Mercantour National Park, overlooking the high altitude ski slopes of Isola 2000, our Chalet offers breathtaking views of the mountains and valleys, benefiting from a South facing aspect to make the most of the glorious Mediterranean sunshine. Snow conditions allowing access to the pistes is but a few minutes from your doorstep.
The Chalet is slightly larger than the plan below with the added benefit of two mezzanine areas. It sleeps up to 10 people and is ideally suited for two families or a group of close friends! The downstairs consists of an entrance hall with very generous storage cupboard, open plan fully fitted kitchen, dinning area and lounge with two triple sofas. Doors from the lounge area lead to the private south facing terrace providing extensive views of the area. Upstairs are two double bedrooms, and with the two mezzanine areas provides sleeping for 8 persons, with 2 more accommodated in the downstairs bunkroom with an en-suite toilet and shower-room. One bedroom has a balcony with further great views surrounding scenery. Beneath the Chalet is a triple garage for secure private parking, a boot room and storage of skis.
Isola 2000 is located in the Alpes Maritimes in the south eastern corner of France, on the Franco-Italian border. It is also on the border of the central zone of the Mercantour National Park where you can see lots of wild animals such as chamois, marmottes, mouflons, and bouquetins. It is only 97km from Nice and by car the journey takes about one hour and twenty minutes. During the summer it is possible to drive from Turin in Italy to Isola 2000 by the Col de la Lombarde. A number of airlines fly to Nice Airport, including Easyjet, British Airways and British Midland.
The resort has a ski area of 120km, with 42 pistes (7 green, 21 blue, 11 red and 3 black) and 21 lifts (2 telecabines, 10 ski-tows, 8 chairlifts and one funicular).
The convenient ski area fans out above the resort to the south and west right up to the Italian borderline. Beginners benefit from an excellent gentle plateau that stretches for almost five kilometres (three miles) alongside the main resort complex. Both sunshine and snowfall are guaranteed by the resort, which has held the French snowfall record on several occasions. Christmas 2006 saw Isola with exceptionally good skiing with virtually all runs open, whereas most other resorts in the Alpes struggled with insufficient snow. Due to the high altitude, much of the terrain is above the treeline and on sunny slopes. The main route up is via the gondola to Tete de Pelevos directly above the resort. This naturally tends to be the busiest. Some of the toughest runs including black pistes in the Mene and St Sauveur areas are usually quieter. Some of the best intermediate skiing in the Genisserie sector is accessed by one of two high speed quads at the resort. For the most advanced skiers and boarders, off-piste skiing is offered from February by the ski school. Although heli-skiing isn`t possible in France, the proximity to Italy means it is also possible to heliski, accessings slopes with at least 1400m verticals, over there with the ski school and its guide-instructors right through into May when conditions are good. Twice a week, during the French school holidays night skiing is organised on the Belvedere slope, free of charge.
