The cottage (L'Ecurie) has been lovingly converted to provide downstairs: a spacious open plan lounge and fitted kitchen/diner and wc/shower room and upstairs two large bedrooms (one twin and one double) and a bathroom. The cottage has access to a large courtyard at the front and has its own private garden and terrace to the rear. L'Ecurie has heating and a log burning stove for cosy off-peak breaks.Logs and electricity are free)

Nestled in the countryside between two pretty villages with restaurants, bars and shops.The many paths, tracks & quiet country lanes are ideal for walking, cycling & horse riding. On the edge of the Brenne National Park the area is rich in wildlife. Golf 10mins away at la Roche Posay. Ideal as a base for house hunting in the region- being on the border of the Poitou-Charentes and the Val de Loire.
Facilities
La Metairie d'Auge is situated in a very rural location approx one and a half kilometres (in different directions) from each of two villages- Angles sur L'Anglin and Vicq sur Gartempe. Vicq sur Gartempe is situated in the Vienne on the eastern edge of the Poitou-Charentes, less than 2km from its border with the Loire region. The Poitou-Charentes has a reputation for being the second sunniest region of France. Whilst the other departments of the Poitou-Charentes (Vendee and Charentes-Maritime) are very popular with visitors, the Vienne department is as yet a less well known gem. The beautiful spa town of La Roche Posay is 9km away (relaxing spa and specialist skin treatments available). La Roche has many shops and a supermarket as well as weekly markets - food and one general. There is also a stunning 18 hole golf course - open to non-members. Within half an hour's drive are the beautiful market towns of Chauvigny and Chatellerault.
Activities
Vicq-sur-Gartempe is a quiet village with a post office, general store, fantastic bakery and two friendly bars. Canoe hire is available locally should you wish to explore the local rivers.
2km in the other direction will bring you to Angles-sur l'Anglin (with its own ruined chateau) situated either side of a crossing over the river Anglin the picturesque village is holder of an award for one of the prettiest villages in France and the home to a newly opened visitor centre for the nearby " Roc aux Sorciers"- caves containing a 14,000 year old freize of rock carvings. The village is also famous for its cottage industry of "Jours d'Angle" lace making. Angles has several cafés (serving food) and restaurants, a tabac and a pharmacy. The village of Angles sur l'Anglin hosts many exciting events including- a medieval weekend for 14th July, a fantastic firework, light and laser display on the first Sunday of August and a book festival around 15th August each year.

Perfect family holiday in beautiful surroundings

We had a wonderful holiday with our baby in l'Ecurie. Clean, sunny cottage with all the necessary equipment for a baby provided (proper wooden cot, highchair). Our daughter loved seeing the friendly dog, cats, chickens, ducks, ponies and rabbits. The area is very peaceful, set in the countryside with views over fields. It's around a 20-30min walk to angles-sur-l'Anglin across the farm tracks which we mananaged fine with a buggy. Lots of pretty cafes and restaurants in that village and a short drive to good supermarkets. Nich and Julie made us very welcome and it really felt like a home from home. We'll be back.

First Class!

We all had a truly fantastic time in this idyllic region of France.
You are surrounded buy stunning countryside, along with wonderful wildlife. There are plenty of walks to do. Our favourite was to the adjacent village of anglés sur l'Anglin where we would soak up the views and relax with refreshments from a local café.
You don't have to confine yourselves to the countryside either. Trips slightly further afield take you into the hustle and bustle of a typical French city, Poitiers was my particular favourite.
Nich & Julie made the perfect hosts, not to mention their very friendly dog, Max! They were very helpful and efficient, and the small welcome pack was most appreciated.
The accommodation was first class, very clean and well maintained.
All-in-all an excellent place to stay, and I am sure we will visit again soon.

“Total relaxation”
Nich was waiting to meet us, along with Max ( a very friendly dog). IN a very efficient manner he put us at our ease, then left us to relax. The welcome pack included eggs from the farm and wine from a nearby vineyard - delicious! The property is beautifully restored and really French! It is surrounded by fields of wheat and sunflowers, yet we only had to stroll through the lanes for 30 minutes to reach the beautiful town of Anglin. Here we found cafes and various establishments. We had a fabulous dinner at Hotel Le Commerce and the Pizzeria La Marsala was also great.. We were so relaxed while there we found it hard to leave

“France on a plate!”
Having just returned from France I am more than happy to review Nich and Julie's charming cottage. Travelling as a group of four adults, the accommodation was exactly as described on the website and in fact the whole experience was 'exactly what is said on the tin'.
The area was new to us and a delight to explore. The cottage was within walking distance of the charming village of Angles sur l'Anglin, with bakers, bars and restaurants.
Although I understand links by plane we travelled by car; an easy drive from the tunnel.
We will definitely be making a return visit.

“Brilliant - 2nd Year we've been and we'll be back again”
This was our second year in a row that we have been to La Metairie d'Auge and we wouldn't have gone back if we didn't think it was excellent. Julie and Nich make excellent hosts, being there when you need advice or pointing in the right direction, but not intrusive. The location is idyllic, rolling fields with plenty of wildlife surrounding you. There are good local walks, the one to Angle is about 25 mins and it just gets the appetite going for refreshments at the cafe in the square!! The accommodation is always, clean, well kept and there is everything you need for a pleasurable stay. I can say no more than we will be going back in the next couple of years.
