Vacation Rental Description
Our tastefully and immaculately renovated 17th Century country cottage combines rural charm with all the little details that make your holiday a relaxing, stress-free experience. We aim to provide all the little 'extras' that make a holiday in 'Rose Cottage' memorable, from a FREE welcome pack, to ready made-up beds, dinner served on the terrace for the adults to a powered baby-swing so that parents can eat in peace. Rose Cottage is newly-renovated and retains its original beams and has lovely stone walls but the bathroom (with hydromassage shower) and kitchen area are modern with good quality fixtures (and plumbing!).Our little hamlet is accessed by quiet country lanes and is surrounded by woodland, sunflowers and cornfields but is only 3km from the bustling market town of Civray with its restaurants, small shops and supermarkets. There is a twice-weekly market. The cottage is just a couple of minutes from riverside walks along the River Charente and a freshwater bathing lake. The selection of bikes available make exploring the tranquil countryside and quiet lanes a delight
The open plan accommodation is furnished to a very high standard and includes all bed linen, towels and adult bathrobes - and beds are made up ready for your arrival; there is a hairdryer and a hotbrush. A modern spiral staircase leads to a mezzanine with twin beds with a further pull-out bed available. A pretty Juliet balcony looks out over the garden. There is a TV/DVD/CD player with SKY free to view channels. Internet access is available.
The well-equipped kitchen has a full-sized oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, coffee machine and kettle etc; tea/coffee etc are provided for your arrival together with a complimentary bottle of wine. T-towels and some cleaning materials are also provided.
Our lttle hamlet is well-situated for visiting many places of interest to adults and children of all ages - everything from Futuroscope to the World War II martyr village of Oradour sur Glâne but there is plenty to do in the immediate area with cycling, canooing, walking and horseriding for the more energetic and pretty little historic villages, markets and excellent restaurants for lazier days. The coast is just over an hour away on good roads.
Situated in large gardens, with several terraces to provide a choice of shady or sunny eating areas, we have plenty of parasols, sunloungers and garden furniture. There is a patio heater for cooler, early season evenings and a barbecue is provided. We have a selection of bikes (with a toddler seat), a large trampoline, a table tennis table, boules and swing ball, sandpit and childrens slide. We provide lots of indoor and outdoor toys to keep the little ones amused. The 3m plunge pool is perfect for cooling off - beach towels are provided.
A large selection (everything you could need, in excellent condition) of BABY EQUIPMENT is available FREE OF CHARGE. Children under 2 years are accommodated FREE! We provide a cot with all linen and mobiles, highchairs, baby swing, baby walker, safetygate, baby alarm, potty and toilet seat, bottle steriliser, Baby Einstein playmat, playpen and pushalong or rideon toys.
A separate laundry room has a washer, dryer and iron/ironing board. There is also a bath, which is great for small kids who tend to hate the shower! Adult, English-speaking babysitting can be arranged, OR, have a gourmet dinner cooked for you and served on the terrace (baby listener provided) €22pp 5 courses including, aperitifs, all wine, coffee and digestifs.
Children are very welcome, as are well-behaved dogs (with prior notice) - all are kept safe from the odd passing tractor by the walls and large gates surrounding the cottage.
An example of little things that make the difference are being met with a comfortable seat under the stars, hot chocolate and toast after a later than expected arrival!
Facilities
A 5-course gourmet dinner, cooked for you and served on the terrace, with aperitifs, wine, coffee and digestif, is available, with a little notice, for €22 per adult (childrens price €2-€15); our guests have found this particularly welcome on the evening of arrival. A baby listener enables parents to wine and dine outside knowing that if the little ones stir, they will hear them. A selection of bikes is available for our guests to use on the quiet lanes and tracks through the woods. Toys and games for garden and indoor use are provided, as is a large trampoline and a table tennis table. A 3m splash pool is available for 'cooling off'. Picnic equipment, a cold box and beach equipment are all available for our guests use - useful for anyone flying in! A cot, high chair, pushchair, night light and safety gate are all provided, as is a trike/bike with stabilisers. Adult, English-speaking babysitting can be arranged on request.
Activities
A fresh water lake with a waterslide and lifeguarded beach (and a bar!)is only 5 minutes away. It is perfectly safe to use the inflatables that we have available.
The coast, with lovely golden sandy beaches, is just over an hour away on good roads.
