Vacation Rental Description
Situated in beautiful wooded countryside just outside Combiers on the Charente Dordogne border, our farmhouse dating from the early 1700s was originally built for the use of the nearby priory at Rozet. One half has been converted to a comfortable two-bedroomed gite with old world charm. We bought it in 2001 having fallen in love with the quiet location and gorgeous views. Being on the border of the Charente and the Dordogne, it is perfectly located to take advantage of all that both departments have to offer, beautiful landscapes, great food and wine, historical towns and villages, musical festivals and outdoor activities galore.
Kitchen
The kitchen area is furnished in a country style with a mix of painted and waxed pine furniture and belfast sink. It has a gas cooker, microwave and all the kitchen equipment you will need for your holiday. There is a dishwasher and washing machine in the utility room. The dining table can comfortably seat 6.
Lounge
The lounge has views over the front garden and 'Le Tilleuil' the lime tree from which the gite gets its name. Comfortably furnished with two large sofas, a television and DVD player, music centre and a selection of DVDs, CDs, books and games.
Bedrooms
Each bedroom has a double and single bed with old French furniture but decorated in a contemporary style. Both rooms have a shower-room with toilet. The view from the windows is of the garden and surrounding Charente countryside.
There are an extra two ground floor bedrooms with shared bathroom and extra sitting room, sleeping a total of up to 9 which are available in the summer months. Please contact for details.
Terrace
The gite is entered from the terrace where there are tables and chairs for you to sit out overlooking the garden and pool, superb for eating breakfast in the morning sun or evening but shaded from the heat at mid-day.
Pool and Garden
The pool is above ground but with decking at the same level so that you can relax but still watch people in the pool or just soak up the sunshine while reading a book or admiring the view towards Dordogne.
The garden is planted with shrubs and fruit trees with little 'cottage garden' areas and pots of geraniums. There are outdoor games, a tent for the children and bikes to use.
Your holiday can be as relaxed or as hectic as you want; sit by the pool in the garden overlooking the valley or take the bikes or car and explore further. The area is great for walking, cycling, photography and bird-watching. Dine outside on the terrace overlooking the pool or visit Le Petit Jardin restaurant set in woodland just a short walk away. You can also sample the wonderful regional foods by visiting the markets in Brantôme, Riberac or Villebois-Lavalette, they are full of colour and atmosphere.
What variety we have, beautiful countryside, ancient towns, châteaux, history, sports, relaxation, good food, fine wine, a cosy farmhouse, so much to see and do, or not if you so choose - it will certainly be a holiday to remember!
