Renovated both inside and out in 2008, this 2 double-bedroom gîte with its private entrance and terrace, offers peace and tranquillity in a beautiful rural elevated setting with a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside, yet within walking distance of the village centre and its amenities. For guests this is an idyllic location in which to unwind and relax in comfort, lounge by pool or explore this captivating region of South West France.

The property is set within 5000 metres of landscaped gardens and has its own 14 x 6 metre floodlit swimming pool, surrounded by paved terraces with sun loungers, tables and chairs and parasols. The pool is shared with the owners but no other holidaymakers.

Location
Saint Séverin is located in the south of Charente where it borders the green Perigord region of France. The region is renowned for its gentle undulating countryside interspersed with picturesque rivers, lakes and sleepy villages. It is also well known for its gastronomy, wines and sunny climate.

Description
The bright and airy ground-floor centrally-heated accommodation has been stylishly and tastefully furnished throughout. From a private patio equipped with garden furniture, parasol and barbeque, the front door of the gîte opens to a spacious open-plan lounge and dining area with rustic terracotta tiles throughout.

The lounge is furnished with a cosy settee, arm chairs and coffee table. The dining area has a wrought iron glass-top dining table with matching chairs to seat 4. The American-style kitchen with breakfast-bar is equipped with a modern electric cooker and ceramic hob, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge, separate freezer and a microwave. Two double-bedrooms lead off from the living area, one with a double bed and French windows overlooking the gardens in front, the other with two single beds. A vestibule leads to a shower room and wc.

Other amenities included are a flat screen TV with Sky satellite free channels and broadband internet with WIFI. Linen and towels are provided. There is also an iron, ironing board, hairdryer and all the basic cleaning materials to make for a hassle-free holiday. Cleaning services not included. Regrettably, we do not accept children under the age of 12 and pets are not permitted. Guests are requested not to smoke inside the gîte.

Local Amenities
Located on the outskirts of Saint Séverin and a few minutes’ walk to the village centre, guests have every convenience right on their doorstep. There is a supermarket, bakery, bank, butchers, newsagents/tobacconist, pharmacy, doctor, dentist and hairdressers. The property faces public tennis courts. Within the local area there is a golf and country club open to visitors, riding stables and bicycle hire. The region abounds with rivers, lakes for canoeing and swimming and quiet lanes for cycling and walking.

Attractions
Just 7 Kms away is the medieval, hillside village of Aubeterre-sur-Dronne, nominated by the French Tourist Authority as one of the most beautiful villages in France and well-worth a visit for its famous monolithic underground church, craft shops, riverside bathing beach, restaurants and pavement cafés . About the same distance away, just across the border with Dordogne, there is the small bustling town of Ribérac with its famous Friday open-air market.

Southern Charente is famous for its river beaches and lakes. The nearest sandy beaches can be found at Aubeterre sur Dronne, Brossac, Lake Jemaye. All these are within a few minutes drive away. The nearest coast is at Royan which is about 90 minutes drive away.

The famous caves and prehistoric paintings of Villars, Ruffignac and further afield, Lascaux and are all world heritage sites and a visit is a unique experience.The old quarter of Périgueux is a charming area of cobbled streets and sunny squares.

Wedding Venue
We offer the gite together with the gardens and pool area for wedding receptions. As part of the package, guest have the use of the main reception rooms of the house.
