Aubeterre is approx. 6 kms. from "La Grange Maranol" and is rated as one of the most beautiful towns in the region - a haven for artists!! It's market is held on Sunday mornings and features local arts, crafts and produce. It also has a puppet show for children and adults alike, but booking is essential. Much of the town is pre-Roman, in particular the Eglise Monolithe, an ancient place of worship in a gigantic cave. There are many restuarant and cafes, many of which are in a beautiful shady square - just the place to while away the afternoon with a coffee or aperitif!! The town is situated on the river Dronne, which has an excellent safe river beach and is excellent for young children. Canoeing and tennis are also available.
Further afield at Lac Jemaye, a half hour's drive away lies another lovely swimming and bathing lake which has been extensively developed recently with restuarants, children's play area's and a nature trail.
