10 km south of La Rochelle, facing the islands of Ré and Oléron, this nice and clear house with an enclosed back garden is ideally situated 130 yards from a one-mile long safe sandy beach on the Atlantic Coast and just 110 yards from the market street of the bustling seaside town of Châtelaillon-plage (baker, charcutier, pâtissier, newsagent, pharmacy, etc). Covered market every day, street market twice a week. Vast choice of restaurants.
Crossing the front garden, you can either go down 3 steps to the lower floor: Shower room with toilet and basin, 2 bedrooms: 1 twin, 1 with double sofa bed; or up 7 steps to the ground floor: Lounge, kitchen/diner, bathroom with basin, separate toilet, 1 double bedroom.
From both levels you have access to the back garden, perfectly private, where you can rest in the long chairs or have your meals on the terrace. As for breakfast (croissants 100m away), I would recommend the balcony at first floor level, facing the morning sun.
There is gas central heating, so no problem if you come in winter.
The beach is very safe (gentle slope, no current, registered lifeguards), and there is a children's swimming pool on the beach with qualified swimming instructors.
At low tide you can catch your own shrimps and have them with a glass of Muscadet as an apéro. But you can also buy them at the market!
There is a permanent fun fair during the summer month.
If you are sporty, you can enjoy skateboarding, winsurfing, sailing or even sand yachting or serious kite flying.
The large harbour town of La Rochelle is approximately 6.5 miles (10km) away.
The beautiful islands of Ré and Oléron, as well as Fort Boyard, are visible from the beach.
You may also choose to spend a day in the smaller but lovely, no-car île d'Aix, walking or cycling from a beach to another.
Rochefort, 10 km to the south, is another interesting possibility (Corderie Royale, Chantier naval de l'Hermione, a sailing ship of the XVIIth century...)
This is the region where Pineau des Charentes is made, a blend of grape juice partially fermented mixed with Cognac, this town being not far away.
