2 Bedroom Farmhouse in St Jean d'Angely

The heart of sunny Charente-Maritime is where we offer you a relaxing holiday in one of our cottages or B&B rooms. Our huge courtyard and gardens with outdoor furniture and hammocks are there to enjoy. Children have fun in the pool or play in the playground where they can build sand castles or climb and slide on the large playhouse. In the evenings you can have drinks at the bar and maybe play pétanque with us or join in little tournaments of table tennis, 'foot volley' or darts. Outside Chantageasse you can visit sandy beaches, old villages like Cognac, Saintes and La Rochelle, the lovely islands Île d’Oléron and Île de Ré. Driving through the country is fabulous, small roads lead to stunning countryside and charming French hamlets. During high season there’s always a market somewhere and if you would like to taste Cognac and Pineau de Charente we can set up a tour at a local vineyard. Our gîtes: 
 
- La Sittelle - ca 70m², max 4-6 persons and 1 cot 
Our gîte La Sittelle is a sweet and cozy home. Built in the old 'buanderie', we've used a lot of the original details in a contemporary way to make this gîte distinct. 
Downstairs you have a lovely living / dining room with kitchen and sitting area. 
Upstairs are two very nice bedrooms with original details and a comfortable bathroom. 
This gîte is especially suitable for small families, however a 3rd bedroom can be booked. 
 
- La Fauvette - ca 78m², max 4 persons and 1 cot 
Our newest gîte La Fauvette is build just this winter in the old barn stables. We've kept the beautiful beams and old barn walls intact to preserve as much of the 17th century authenticity as possible whilst also providing a comfortable and cozy gîte.  
 
- La Grive - ca 94m², max. 6 persons and 2 cots 
La Grive has original charentaise walls, a fireplace, old French floor tiles in the living room and beautiful renovated, contemporary bedrooms. 
This very spacious, authentic and homy gîte is a delightful place to stay. 
 
- La Mésange - ca 110m², max 6-8 persons and 2 cots 
This spacious, authentic gîte with its many original beams and low windows, was built in an old barn with a beautiful original facade. 
The many shower rooms, the patio doors to the large courtyard and the large play area in front of the gîte makes this gîte especially suitable for large families. 
If you have a large family or when you holiday together a 3rd bedroom can be booked. 
 
Our chambres d'hôtes (B&B rooms): 
 
We have 4 spacious chambres d'hôtes located on the first floor of our main house La Pie. Downstairs is a very large living room and fully equipped semi-professional kitchen for all chambres d'hôtes guests to use. 
It's like having a gîte because you have all facilities you need to prepare and to use your meals but with the luxury of breakfast included. 
The chambres d'hôtes can be booked individually but are especially suitable for larger groups or families. If you book all four chambres ofcourse the large living room downstairs is for private use.

Amenities in the main house: washing machine (€ 2,50 per wash, incl. tablets), iron/ironing board, satellite television (if the house isn't privately rented), computer with free internet/WIFI. Cave Boxing Gym with exercise bike, rowing machine, abdominal trainer, weights etc. You can make reservations for table d'hotes. We will cook a very nice dinner (with starter, main course and side dish, desert and coffee/tea) for you which will be served in the courtyard. Costs for table d'hotes are € 20,- per person excl. drinks. Children from 3 to 9 years at 50%. On Monday we have our popular BBQ-evening, you don't want to miss it. Wednesdays is "Moules et frites", fresh Charentaise mussels from the local market with a sauce of choice. Friday we do tapas... no explanation needed. Please visit our website for more information. Beaches: 
The nearest sandy beach is in Fouras, 35 min. drive away. A small town with a nice beach with activity club in the high season. La Rochelle is a great place to go, you can combine the centre for shopping and the harbor for lunch with the sandy beach for sunbathing. About an hours drive. The coast of Royan and St. Georges de Didonne is very nice and has golden beaches. Royan is 45 min. on the new freeway. And those are just a few of the coastal places to visit. 
 
Golf: 
There are three 18-hole golf courses in Charente-Maritime and a few more 9-holes and 6-holes courses. The closest one is Golf Louis-Rouyer-Guillet near Saintes at approx. 15 min. driving distance. A beautiful wooded 68 par course at the base of a Roman aqueduct ruin, with a panoramic view over the city of Saintes. They have a driving range, putting green and target green with 2 bunkers. Green fee prices from 23 euros (9-holes/low season/2010).

When we moved to France we looked for a location that offered a wonderful holiday experience for our future guests as well as a practical place for ourselves to live. Conveniently located near the motorway and near a larger town that has supermarkets, a hospital, sports facilities, schools and so. We also wanted a location where our guests would really feel like home, quietly located but not isolated and a central starting point to fully enjoy and explore the beautiful region of the Charente-Maritime. Chantageasse had it all. It was the ideal place for us to move to and we just knew that our guests would have a nice and relaxing holiday here. And listening to all the positive reactions of our guests year in and year out, we know we have made the right decision.
