Vacation Rental Description
We bought an old farm house, uninhabited for over eighty years, it never had electricity, it had lost it's roof, floors, doors and windows. We lovingly restored it over two years! Now it's your new old holiday home. Called "les Hirondelles" (the Swallows) as it was the home to the swallows, 100's of them when we bought it, it is now offering a holiday retreat to you and your family.
Enter the beamed 38 square metre dining kitchen complete with a gorgeous "Godin colonial" wood burner, two unique marble topped antique "buffet" units, solid oak table and benches, range size cooker, dish washer and all modern and brand new quality amenities. Go straight through to the large lounge with it's huge original oak beams, 5 metre high ceiling, open beech staircase, beautiful stone wall, sit down comfortably and make your self at home. You've arrived.
Follow the stair case to the en suite room with it's own large super shower room, separate dressing room all complementing a restful king size bedded room with exposed stone walls, oak beams and oak floors.
Back downstairs at ground level, exit the lounge to a house shower room complete with multijet spacious shower, with bedrooms either side, the first is a beamed ceiling double bedroom with a stunning old mirrored wardrobe, the second is a large family room which offers you three or four singles and still lots of space with yet another lovely old mirrored wardrobe.
Outside, an 80 metre patio with BBQ, sunbeds and a garden set for family dining, to the rear, another table and chairs set so you can follow the sun around or avoid it as you wish. There is a 3,000 metre field for you to explore, you may get lost in the long grass this year eventually, this will become the orchard.
The outside of the house is beautifully finished in Charentaise stone with a mature (over 50 years old) single vine which provides your free table grapes in September/October depending on the weather, just lean out of the bedroom window to harvest what you need!
STOP PRESS!!!! THIS HOUSE HAS TOTAL DOUBLE GLAZING, LOG BURNING FIRE, ELECTRIC HEATING, GREAT INSULATION AND IS THEREFORE PERFECT FOR ALL YEAR ROUND HOLIDAYS. COOL IN SUMMER AND WARM IN WINTER!

Les Hirondelles is in a tiny rural courtyard in the hamlet of Chez Raynaud, part of the community of the delightful port town of Mortagne-sur-Gironde. Chez Raynaud has many pretty houses and an "almost British" traditional duck pond, great for fishing with Dad!
The courtyard, Impasse de la Cour is home to a working wine producer, Paul Bissonet who produces wine, Cognac and Pineau on your doorstep.
The pretty hamlet of Chez Raynaud with it's idyllic pond (400 mtrs away) is a friendly place, a shop, summer market and hotel bar & restaurant are within walking distance of the hamlet, but neither visible nor audible from les Hirondelles.
The harbour/port town of Mortagne-sur-Gironde is about 3kms from les Hirondelles and offers restaurants, bars, shops, banks, mini market etc all built aound this stunningly beautiful port. The Gironde is Europes widest and longest estuary and abounds in wildlife, history and natural unspoilt scenery.
