Vacation Rental Description
We are situated in the Charente Maritime on the west coast of France. Nearby are the historic towns of La Rochelle and Rochefort. This area is rich in History with many forts, Romanesque churches, castles and Chateau. Sandy beaches are just a 20mins drive away and easy access to the local islands of Ile de Ré, Ile d’Oleron, Ile d’Aix and Ile Madam. Ideal for couples or families with small children, there’s lots of places to visit and things to keep everyone happy!.
The 17th century Farmhouse and Pigeonnier have recently been renovated to a very high standard. We are surrounded by rolling countryside with fields of sunflowers and wheat, close to a pretty Charentaise village with local shop, bar, post office and famously local restaurant specializing in local cuisine. Nearby there’s fishing, cycling, pony riding and lovely country walks.
Studio style spacious accommodation is self contained on one level. There is a lounge area with a tv, dvd player, wood burner and a double sofa bed, a separate well equipped kitchen and shower room. A large double bed, mezzanine that can sleep 2 children.
Outside there are table and chairs for each of the gites, bbq and a large garden with childrens play area, swings, wendy house, trampoline, football goal, plus free hire of cycles. We have a new 11 x 5 m walled and secure outdoor SWIMMING POOL with a choice of sun loungers.
Local Specialities of the region
Cognac, Pineau made using the grape skins and soaking in cognac, local Charentaise wine, Oysters, Charentaise Melons, Salt from Ile de Ré and new potatoes, Anguille (eel) and of course Escargot (snails), Fish platters served in most of the restaurants along the coast, Mouclade (mussels), Mougettes (dried white beans cooked in a rich tomatoe sauce) and cabécou (goat’s cheese) is a regional speciality.

Chatelaillon is the nearest beach being only a 20mins drive.
La Rochelle is a lively vibrant city with lots of atmosphere. Along the fortified port there’s numerous cafés and bars, large boating marina, boat trips to the local islands and fort Boyard, Aquarium, museums, bowling, animal parks, casino, fantastic shops and boutiques, lots of seafood restaurants and beaches.
Rochefort with the historic Corderie Royale, Roman spa, the building of the ship Hermione, the Transponder bridge, Conservatoire du Begonia, great markets and shops.
Ile de Ré, this pretty island, with the beautiful fishing ports of St. Martin and La Flotte with their lovely boutiques, café’s and restaurants, donkey’s wearing gingham trousers!
Fouras has views of Fort Boyard, a castle overlooking the sea. The grand plage is great for families with small children. Fouras is a typical French seaside resort with lovely restaurants.

Ile d’Aix is the smallest habitable Island, the only way onto this quaint island is by ferry boat. There’s a few bars and restaurants, shops and even a Napolean museum.
Venise Vert is about a 30mins drive, with an intricate canal system to explore, you can hire kayaks or even electric boats for the whole family.
Ile d’Oleron, miles of sandy beaches and surfing at St.Trojen. Oysters parks. Great views of Fort Boyard from Boyardville to the north of the Island. Just south of the bridge to Oleron are the long sandy beaches of Ronce-Les-Bains and La Tremblade. At La Palmyre there is a fantastic zoo to see.
Cognac is 1 30mins drive away with all the famous distilleries Henessey, Courvoisier and Martell.
Poitiers and Futurascope takes about 1 and ½ hours by car.
Puy du Fou park in the Vendee is about an hours drive away, it’s for all the family and a great day and evening out.
