Vacation Rental Description
Come and enjoy the charms of this typical old stone mill house in the Charente Maritime, with its own solar heated pool. Chez Moulin has been been renovated to provide a light, airy place to stay. With 3 bedrooms, a bathroom, additional WC, open plan kitchen/living area and galleried landing with sofas, French'daybed', there is plenty of space to enjoy this beautiful mill house, which is situated just 20 minutes from the Atlantic beaches of Royan and St. Georges de Didonne. Chez Moulin is perfect for exploring the Charente Maritime, which has its own micro-climate, equal to the South of France for sunshine hours.

Close to the village of Cravans and just 3kms from the town of Gemozac with its shops, supermarkets, internet cafe, outdoor swimming lido, tennis courts and regular Friday market, Chez Moulin is the perfect holiday house in the Charente Maritime.

This charming mill house offers all necessary mod cons needed to make your stay a comfortable one. Situated on its own, this holiday accommodation, offers all its facilities for the sole use of its guests.

Set in over an acre of garden, with plenty of space for ball games, Chez Moulin is surrounded by open countryside, sunflower fields and bordered by the river Beneguisse (actually, more of a stream with small waterfall). Originally a mill house, the millstream flows from the millpond opposite the house, under the lane and garage rejoining the Beneguisse in the garden. The stream can be crossed by a quaint wooden bridge.

The garden has proved to be a wildlife haven; the stream often being home to families of ducks, moorhens and coots. Kingfishers are regular visitors and upstream a family of otters have been spotted. If you're up early enough, you may well see the deer who come to drink from the stream.

Our peaceful mill house in the Charente Maritime is private, providing itself either as an excellent base to explore this beautiful part of south west France, take a trip inland, visit the coast, or simply hideaway and relax.

Cycling is fairly flat,so the most can be made of the 2500 km of cycle routes in the Charente-Maritime, many quiet lanes, as well as, a great cycle track through the pine trees at the Grand Cote, there couldn't be a better way to discover the area.

The Bordeaux wine producing areas of Blaye, St. Emillion and Medoc are also worth a visit, offering the opportunity to taste as well as buy, with guided tours given at many of the local chateaux.

    Owner Location Comment
The Charente Maritime, with its own micro-climate, equals the South of France for sunshine hours. Its sweeping vineyards produce grapes for the famous Cognac brandy and Bordeaux wines, while its oyster beds grow this local delicacy and seafood is found in abundance, being known as the ‘fast food’ of the area.

As well as the stunning beaches, with their miles of soft sand, and the elegant harbours and ports of the Atlantic coast, the region is also famous for its cultural heritage with its Romanesque churches, towns and ruins. The Santiago de Compostela pilgrim route that many pilgrims took during the Middle Ages and in fact, still do today, passes right through this area. Saintes, La Rochelle, the citadel at Brouage, Talmont sur Gironde, Pons and Rochefort, with its maritime history, are just some of the examples of the cultural wealth to be found here.

So, from beaches with miles of golden sand to historical ports, oyster farms, blue lakes, winding rivers, idyllic islands, quaint undiscovered villages and Roman sites, this peaceful, beautiful area of France really does have everything to offer the visitor.

Thanks Siân and Richard for providing such a beautiful and tranquil hideaway for our holiday! Surmounted, surpassed, exceedd all expectations - we were truly happy for our week here. Our 2 and 4 year olds loved the Zoo at Palmyre - feeding popcorn to the giraffes - a surreal and joyous experience!
Otherwise we just swam, barbequed, played boules and cricket and simply ran around the garden endlessly. I am sure some happy childhood memories were created here for our children. We really hope to return. Many thanks.

"We have really enjoyed our stay here. The weather has been fantastic with the pool giving welcome respite on the very hot days. We loved the house, especially the big room downstairs and felt very much at home. The 'book' has given us plenty of ideas for trips out and good pointers for restaurants. Would definitely recommend to others."

"Our first trip to Le Moulin and all we can say is FANTASTIC! The setting is so peaceful. Our teenage boys went fishing and enjoyed the catch of the day on the barbeque in the evenings. A perfect getaway from the rat race."
