Set in the large, secluded gardens of Les Grands Arbres, our two hundred year old Charentaise house, this tastefully restored cottage offers top quality accommodation for anyone looking for a truly relaxing holiday. Close to the amenities of the attractive market town of St Jean d’Angely and ideally placed for exploring this beautiful region of the Charente Maritime our many guests have loved it here.
Le Châtaignier (Chestnut Cottage)is equipped for 2 to 4 people and is a lovely light-filled cottage with patio areas front and back, allowing you to enjoy the sun throughout the day.
The ground floor is open plan with a cottage style kitchen incorporating cooker, microwave, fridge and washing machine, a dining and lounge area, with comforatable seating. There is satellite TV, DVD and CD players and a good supply of books, CDs, DVDs and games. Open-tread wooden stairs lead to a full height double bedroom with king size bed, made up with good quality cotton bedding, ready for your arrival. There is a separate shower room with w.c., wash-hand basin and heated towel rail. The hall upstairs has additional wardrobe space and a lovely view over the apple orchard. A comfortable double bed-settee is provided on the ground floor. Fans are provided and heating is available for those cooler evenings, off-season.
The gîte has two private patio areas with tables, chairs and barbeque – providing the perfect place to sit and enjoy a meal prepared from the produce bought at the local markets or those hand-prepared meals from the charcuterie counter, so beloved of the French.
The tranquil grounds of Les Grands Arbres extend to 5000m2, including attractive garden areas, an orchard, a large field and a parking area. There is also an open-plan barn with table tennis, table football and other outdoor games, swings, plus a variety of bikes are available for your use (please bring your own safety helmets). Top up your tan on the lovely sheltered terrace around the 10 x 5 metre heated swimming pool, with its sun loungers, tables and parasols. The pool is protected by a security railing.
Please note that unfortunately pets are not invited and smoking is not allowed within the gîtes.
