La Maison en Pierre is a traditional stone built farmhouse on the edge of the unspoilt village of St Juire Champgillon in the Vendée region of France. Originally built for habitation on the ground floor, with a corn store (grenier) on the first floor, it was completely renovated in 2008 and now offers high quality and spacious accommodation. The adjoining land has already been transformed into an extensive 2 acre, well-kept garden and includes a heated pool and children’s play area.

The house accommodates up to 10 people (plus 2 babies) so is ideal for large families or two families holidaying together. It boasts many original features, including exposed stone walls and large exposed beams in each of the 5 double and twin bedrooms.

The newly fitted kitchen includes a range cooker with both conventional and fan assisted ovens, set into the original fire surround, a dishwasher, microwave and large fridge/freezer. The washing machine is to be found in the separate utility room.

The living/dining room is 9m x 6m and is equipped with UK satellite TV with all your favourite free view channels.

A double bedroom is situated on the ground floor and would be suitable for guests with limited mobility, as a shower room and WC are also situated on the ground floor to cater for this room.

The 4 other bedrooms are located on the first floor and each has an en suite shower room with WC. The master bedroom en suite also includes a bath. There are 2 double rooms with king-size beds and cots (not travel cots) and 2 twin rooms.

In the extensive gardens you will find an 8.5m x 4.6m heated swimming pool with a picnic & BBQ area close by, under the welcome shade of three large, mature walnut trees. A children’s play area comprising of swings, slide and climbing frame is also provided and ball games and badminton can be enjoyed on the extensive lawns. A large vegetable and fruit garden is on hand for anyone who gets their relaxation from digging! (Or maybe just a little gentle watering).

A small courtyard garden is attached to the house and is perfect for daytime relaxation, BBQs or evening drinks once the kids are in bed.

In the courtyard is a newly renovated games room, with PS2 and game racer seat, board games, toys, DVDs and Videos.

The house is fully insulated, centrally heated throughout, and has a large wood-burning stove in the living/dining room, so is perfect for out of season holidays and would be ideal for Christmas/New Year celebrations.

Shorter lets can be arranged out of season (i.e. long weekends / midweek breaks), along with flexible changeover days. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.

The kitchen has been newly installed and contains a large cooking range with conventional and fan-assisted ovens, along with a seperate grill & slow cooker. There is a large breakfast table and chairs in the kitchen & a further more formal dining table in the lounge. There is a seperate utility room on the ground floor with a washing machine and cleaning equipment. There is a computer with free secure WiFi internet access. The TV in the lounge has UK freeview satellite and French terrestial channels.

In the unspoilt village of Bazoges you will find a magnificent medieval donjon (keep), with its beautifully laid out garden & a very popular restaurant. For those who fancy a stroll there is a large picturesque lake at St Martin Lars or a lovely walk along the river banks behind the chateau at Sainte Hermine. Luçon, with its 16th century cathedral and hidden Jardin Dumaine, is within a 20 minutes easy drive.

For a spot of wine-tasting, head of to the nearby town of Mareuil-sur-Lay, where local wines can be sampled. Fishing is a popular sport in the Vendée and there are many lakes and rivers to choose from. If golf is your preferred sport, there a 5 golf courses in the region.

The famous sandy Vendéen beaches are approximately a 45 minute drive away, where a host of water sports are available. The unmissable theme park of Le Puy de Fou is 50 minutes away and the exciting and fun-packed Futuroscope is to be found at Poitiers.

• Travel Info: La Maison en Pierre is situated in the South Vendée, close to the towns of Chantonnay, Luçon and Fontenay Le Comte and is easily accessed from Junction 6 of the A83 motorway. We are approximately a 3 hour drive from St. Malo, 5 hours from Cherbourg and 7 hours from Calais. Both Nantes and La Rochelle airports are approximately a 1 hour drive away and both are served by many of the budget airlines. Car hire is available from both of these airports. A 30% deposit is due on booking to secure your reservation, with the remaining 70% payable 8 weeks prior to your holiday. A refundable breakages deposit of £100/€130 is also required and will be refunded within two weeks of your departure (subject to satisfactory property inspection). Payment can be accepted in Sterling or Euros (Cash or Cheque) - paid directly into either our French or UK bank account. The deposit will be forfeited for cancellations up to 8 weeks prior to visit and total cost will be lost if less than 8 weeks - if we are unable to re-let these weeks.
