La Rue Dorée is a delightful, furnished, 2bedroomed self-catering gite within 3km of local commerce ( the village of Allonnes) and 10 minutes drive the beautiful town of Saumur.
Situated in the French countryside, your French "home from home" enjoys an ideal setting to experience the splendour of the Loire region. The delightful enclosed private garden with mature fruit trees is perfect for spending leisurely family time.
The Loire region, also called the "Garden of France", provides 75% of the mushrooms eaten in Paris and local seasonal fruit & vegetables that have to be tasted to be believed!
Renowned for its many attractions, including troglodyte caves, fine wine (Saumur Champigny, Chinon & Bourgueil), the area's fabulous historic buildings, (such as Fontevraud Abbey, where Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine lie in state), as well as its breathtaking châteaux Saumur, Montsoreau, Chinon, Angers, Breze, Villandry and many others are all within a short drive of the cottage.
Saumur, (the home of the National Riding School and the French Cavalry, Cadre Noir), is only a short drive away and spans the Loire with its two spectacular bridges and offers river views, a magnificent château and a wide variety of shops including a fabulous butcher and cheese shop plenty of restaurants, theatres, bars and historic buildings, and a superb market on Saturdays.
"The house at La Rue Dorée, Allonnes, is very pretty and as soon as you walk in, it feels welcoming. In fact I find it so comfortable, I forget that it's not mine! It is cosy without feeling cramped and I have stayed a few times with my family, on one occasion, with my parents as well as my 2 teenagers, and it still felt extremely homely. The garden also offers a comfortable feel, being completely enclosed, and we regularly ate outside. I will definitely look forward to visiting again."
